TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Okay I have been really scared to ask my Diabetes Team about this...

When having sex what do I do with my pump? Do I keep it on and hope we don't get tangled up in it? Do I take it off and hope my BS stay in range? What about my CGMS it has to be with in 5 feet of the monitor...

We have not had sex since I got my pump and he (and me) is getting REALLY impatient but he understands to a point.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

At night I wear a leg strap that holds my pump. I got my pump right before getting married and it's never been a problem for us. Even when not wearing the leg strap. I remember being really concerned about this issue as well when I first got my pump, but it turns out it's really not a big deal ;)

Just "go for it"! haha.

P.s. I got have two leg straps from mini-med one I can wear on my thigh, the other I wear just under my knee. If you search online there are several options for this type of thing.

Good luck!

I agree with all of the posts above. I used to just disconnect mine and tuck it under the pillow for a while. However... I am also a bigtime klutz, so make sure to put it where it won't fall far, like from your bunk bed. Also, beware of intense rubbing at the pump site. You'll see what I mean when you start gettin' down.
But most imporntantly, DO NOT BE ASHAMED OF IT. You are a beautiful woman who happens to have diabetes. Let your partner know about your diabetes, and tell them why there is a small tube dangling from your stomach. If they can't be cool with it, boot their butt out, they are not worth it.
Also have juice or something nearby, because as a previous poster noted, sex is a workout. You could get low.
Good luck, and HAVE FUN!

I take it off, as long as you're not doing anything for hours. Check your blood sugar before you remove it, put it on a temp bolus of 0 for about an hour and enjoy. If you have it on vibrate for an alert, it will start making noise when the temp bolus is over, as a reminder.

It is awkward getting used to the thing.

My pump is the Omnipod, no need to disconnect as I have no tubing, I swear it's been a lifesaver!

You are allowed to take it off for an hour just like a shower I read that in a diabetes book.

I've never taken it off when having sex. I did worry in the beginning about what it would be like and how it would look and that.... Now, I wonder what I was worried about! There is no problem in taking it off if you want to but I never have. Its never been in the way so dont worry. You'll work something out that suits you.
