Ok.. so I have a yeast infection. My bg has been crazy lately and I'm assuming it is a result of that. It is making me irritable lol. I have a dr. appointment on Friday. Usually when I have a yeast infection, I will ask for this pill that you take and it will usually clear up within 3 days. However, I don't know that I can wait till Friday.
I hate those messy creams. It just makes me feel gross and I uaually end up forgetting a dose. And douches burn like crazy! Are there any other alternatives out there that you could suggest?

We had a discussion about this with some good tips last summer: "For all you women out there"

Personally, my gynecologist swore by a tactic I used and I now consider myself effectively cured of recurring infections. I was getting yeast infections every 6-8 weeks, regardless of my BG control, for about three years. Every time I would get one, it took two doses of Diflucan (that magic pill) and a prescription strength 1-dose cream-filled applicator (gynezol) for it to subside - and sometimes even that wasn't enough. A year before my wedding (so, over two years ago), my doc put me on weekly Diflucan, regardless of a current infection or not. It worked. It allowed my system enough time to heal and build up immunity. After about 6 months, I went to a pill every two weeks, then after a couple months, one pill a month. Now I don't take it at all. I think I've had two yeast infections in the last two years.

There are concerns that some people could build up an immunity to the Diflucan and then have it be ineffective, but several friends here to whom I've suggested it have had similar success. It's worth asking your doc because they're hell when you get them frequently.

As far as what to do until Friday, try the old standbys of cotton undies and a hair dryer on cool (hey, if it feels good). If I were you, I'd go ahead and try a 3-day cream. They suck, but they're less maintenance than a 7-day and way more effective (and safe) than the 1-day.

Melissa,
You better knock on wood! LOL!!
My Doctor did something similar for me. I just took the Diflucan every day for about 2 months and then that was it. I haven't had one in a little over a year. (I'm knocking on wood right now). Good luck Christina.

Hi Christina,

A natural medicine cure for yeast infections is acidophilus pills. I can't remember the dosage though. You can get them at a natural foods store and just ask the sales person.

ok I know people are going to think this is crazy but I tried it and it works. And no medication. Take 2/3 parts buttermilk mix 1/3 water and douche. It works it really does. And it stops the itching fast.

I have also heard of using plain yogurt but have never tried it.

This is going to help! It helps to restore your bodies "flora". It has the benefits of eating yogurt without the carbs!
If it were me I would do the cream and get some panty liners until Friday.I am miserable when it comes to yeast infections!

I've tried everything, too! I've even tried the Diflucan pills once per week for 6 weeks...I'm going to go get checked for Celiac Disease, because I've read that yeast infections can be due to gluten issues. Good luck!

Yup, crazy high blood sugars will do it. I just took a Diflucan the other day because my sugars have been crazy too! I'm not sure this will help because it's similar to the creams but plain yogurt can do the trick. Eating and using it as a cream. I've also taken baking soda baths before and that works temporarily...at least it helps with the pain. It may sting a little bit at first but go easy and it should give you some relief.

FYI
If you are like me and are prone to these often, try using one of the suppositories or cream once a week - even if you have no symptoms. That can help ward off a full blown infection.

Good luck...I feel your pain.
