TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Hello Girls! i'm happy to be in this forum with you. Its important for us to share experiences, as we're women and we have some particular subjects related to diabetes.
My skin is really dry and my doctor told me that its related to diabetes. Do you suffer with this problem? How do you do to hydrate your skin? Which moisturizing lotion do you use? Which brand, texture? Is there any specific? It really bothers me. Do you have any advice? Thanks!!

i tend to get dry skin in the winter months, just on my shins and hands really. i wouldn't say it's from being diabetic though. i know a lot of non-diabetic women who have worse dry skin issues that i do!! my favorite lotion is curel. it's in a light blue bottle and it actually works!! it's basically fragerant free which i think is great. i don't think it's greasy either, i don't care for that in lotions.

I have fairly dry skin, and it itches, was told it can be worsened by diabetes. I like Aveeno and if you have problems with itchy skin Aveeno makes packets of like and oatmeal bath that you can soak in, works great.

Number 1 thing- try limiting your salt intake. Other than that, I like use spf 45 moisturizing face lotion from Neutrogena. I see a dermatologist once a year who recommends this brand for the SPF protection- it'll keep you looking younger longer.

Drink lots of water too!

OH, boy, can I relate to this one, I feel like a scaley fish sometimes. I use Avon's Moisturizing Cream in a jar...it's the best thing that I have found, and you can get it on sale quite often. Short of that, I use Nivea (SP). We used to use that on my son's exema when he was a baby, and that works pretty well, but it's so sticky. I hate getting out of the shower and feel like I just put grease on my skin. Speaking of showers, make the luke warm and quick....no hot showers as that take all the oil out of your skin. On really cold, dry days during the winter, I will end my shower with a real light film of baby oil. Standing under the shower to make sure that it seeps into my skin. And then pat dry, never rubbing it completely off. Wait 5 - 10 minutes before dressing not to ruin your clothes. Good luck, if you find something terrific, let us know.
