So I need frank and realistic advice on this procedure.
I am almost 28 years old.
I am always in monogamous sexual relationships (serial monogamist?)
I have found that hormone-based birth control was HORRIBLE for my blood sugars and blood pressure. I am very very sensitive to condoms and they cause severe irritation to my skin.
For the last 3 years or so, I've been using spermicidal gel and pulling out as my method. But I am getting tired of it.
For the last 2 years, I have been seriously considering having my tubes tied or having an IUD.
I am leaning in favor of the tubes being tied because
1) i have friends with IUDs who say it was the most painful thing they've ever experienced.
2) I can't take the mirena, so I'd have to be on the copper one, and the idea of having copper shoved long-term in my uterus freaks me out.
Now, getting my tubes tied (and possibly preserving some egg? but I doubt it)
is something I'm comfortable with choosing. I don't want children for a variety of diabetes and ethical reasons.
But I've heard some pretty bad stories about hormone imbalances and heavy bleeding and so forth.
Can anyone share their experiences with this procedure?
Yeah. Tubal ligation. Definitely screws up your hormones. Had one in '86. Took several years to realize why I was having such a tough time with BGs and a sort of estrogen dominance syndrome. Well i had never had an easy time w/BG to be honest, but it got even harder. If you are on a pump you can handle it with effort. I was 34.Had I known, I would not have done it. MD's will not mention this, at least they did not back then. But you get sort of pre-menopausal which sucks. Just my experience opinion. Will be interested to others' experiences.I was 34 at the time...
I am young but I have already had horrible complications from years of high blood sugars... not really interested in making those worse by putting the strain of pregnancy on my body. I'd rather adopt.
