Hi everyone

Type 1 diabetic for 26 years.

My blood sugars have been extremely consistent (daily average of 5.5, weekly average of 6.2) over the last year. Last A1C in May 2012 was 6.4%. I have been working extremely hard to get it below 5.9%. At the end of October 2012 I went off the birth control pil, and all of a sudden my sugars have been higher than normal, and there is no pattern? I test each hour to see what it is doing, but it is just so frustrating.

I am seeing my endo next week, and I know that my A1C is now not going to be anywhere near where I wanted it to be, just because of the last 4 weeks?
I am so upset about this, I could die!!!!!!

Al that hard work, following an extreme low carb diet, avoiding all nice foods, and now my A1C is not gonna be where I want it.

Sorry, just venting!!

:-)

How long before my sugars stabilize again?

It sounds like you may need a basal overhaul. I know that I have a different pattern on my insulin pump for my off-week that I've been working on for almost a year and still haven't gotten it exactly where it needs to be for that one week. Hormones wreak havoc on blood sugars, so with you going completely off the pill, your hormones are probably at different levels than when you were on the pill.

Hi BSP

Thanks for your comment. Yes that is what I have been doing, adding 1 unit of basal everyday.
It's just so frustrating when you have been trying so hard.
Just can't wait for my hormones to settle down again.

I don't mean to be discouraging but I had my tubes tied when I had my 2nd a year ago. I had to go back on the pill about 5 months ago because I couldn't get my sugars under control. My bg was in the 300-400s during ovulation, then drop to the 40's the first 2 days of my period then back to insulin resistant for the last 3 days. The roller coaster put my a1c to 8.3. My last a1c, 2 months after going back on the pill was 7.2 so there's improvement. Not sure what your hormones levels are like but mine off the pill were too crazy so I will probably be on the pill until menopause.
