So we did not have much luck getting a 504. Long story short I pulled him out of the school rather than sue them...What a year.

Hey everyone! I remember when I was diagnosed (Sept. 9 2010) I started a new school that year. My grandparents and my aunt insisted on the 504 plan and the ADA. The school told us it was NOT needed. After awhile they finally accepted. If you have any troubles with the school here is my advice- JUST KEEP ON INSISTING THAT YOU NEED ONE!!! I'm not really sure what the 504 and ADA do for you, but my grandpa told me thats what they did, and it worked. I don't think the schools can refuse.

dejahtoris - I am a certified school counselor with type 1 diabetes for 37 years. Your school's response is unacceptable. They MUST provide a 504 for your son. A 504 is - http://specialchildren.about.com/od/504s/f/504faq1.htm Get the Counselor to write one this week! They must do it! If not go to principal and superintendent. Call me if I might help.

Hi all, my son has had type 1 since Sept 2010 and the school is dragging its feet on a 504. They say he only needs a medical plan. Any thoughts?

hello everyone ,i recently got turned down for supplemental aflac insurance (short term dissability ins.) due to me taking insulin .can they do this ?
