Hi all just joined this group. I was dxd with the big D in 97 and was controllin it with just diet n excercise but in 98 my mom passed and she was the only other close family member that had diabetes that stressed me out so bad i couldnt control my sugars anymore so i went on glocophage and some anti depression meds. so in 98 i got pancreatitis and it all went down hill from there. i fell in the 20 % that never recover wholly from it so my doctors disabled me due to it and now uncon trolled diabetes...I am now on a pump and just taking it one day at a time...

Hi there. I was diagnosd with tyope 2 diabetes some 6 years ago, But currently it has worsen, and may have type 1 (not decided yet). But I inherited from my father. I have moved from pils to several injections of insulin per day, I have also been diagnosed with neurapathy and vascular disease in my legs and feet making it a real task to walk anywhere. Two block is about my limit before the pain is too intolerable - so this has become a diabikity. I also have a phobia about driving a car, have had it since my teens (flunked drivers ed because of it). I have walked and used public transportation to get me everywhere. Now those days are gone, and becoming a shut in in my home. So beside using medication for neurapathy, I am using a mid anti depressant to cope with these changes in my life. I joined this group to hopefully see through the forest and have hope.

Hey,
I live near Philly, my son has autism and was diagnosed Type1 a couple months ago. He gets supplemental insurance through the state - Medical Assistance- specifically - Keystone Mercy. We use this in addition to the insurance we get through my husbands job. He qualifies because of the autism diagnosis, but we are able to use for some diabetes related expenses.
For Punk in Australia, we are considering insulin pump for my son but am concerned about his level of activity (high) and the increase chance of pump being dislodged. Also do you find Autism adds some mystery elements to blood sugar numbers. I feel autism is also an autoimmune disease so sometimes I feel my son is has "double" suseptibility to illness etc. Some inexplicible highs that I think may relate to seasonal allergies, still not sure...trying to figure that stuff out. thanks for any input.....

Hi there I live in Australia. my son Dane has aspergers. He was diagnosed with diabetes about 18 months ago. He has just started to use an insulin pump. He is very good with technology and has picked it up very easily. I have to count his carbs but he does all the button pushing himself.
