There's a Gin Blossoms concert this Friday, June 24th, in Fort Worth that's benefiting JDRF. If you're interested, they still have tickets. They are really good seats, super close to the stage. $60 per ticket.

The next meeting of the Pancreatics (Adults with type 1 diabetes) is set and sounding like a great time! Join us on Sunday, June 26th at 5 p.m. at Aldo's Ristorante Italiano (8539 Fredericksburg Road, San Antonio, TX 78229-3345).

We are saying right now that significant others/family are invited, but we are limiting the RSVP to the first 25 responders only - so be picky about who you choose to bring with! ;) Aldo's will be providing light hors d'oeuvres and their house wine. If you choose to stay for dinner afterward, you may move to the dining room but dinner will be your financial responsibility.

This is a support group for Adults with type 1 diabetes. Meetings are meant to be a chance to relax, have fun, complain, learn, get support, do a blood sugar without getting stared at, you name it. Please note that you can participate in the group in several ways:
meetup.com = http://www.meetup.com/Pancreatics
Facebook = http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_122865917789705

Please RSVP through any of the options above and we hope to see you on the 26th!

@ Mr. Brown...I've been insured through the Tx Risk Pool for 17 yrs. (as long as I've had diabetes). My insurance is w/Blue Cross Blue Shield. It pays very well -- however, it's expensive

I've been a diabetic since I was a small child and anytime I go to the doctor they always say it is because I am diabetic. I could have a yeast infection and they would say it is because I am diabetic. Doesnt matter that my sister who isnt diabetic always gets them. I'm so sick of hearing every doctor blaming everything on diabetes. I keep my blood sugars under very good control so their blaming everything on that just pisses me off.

The Texas risk pool might be a viable option - I did the Missouri insurance pool while I lived there. It was expensive, but better than nothing. Also, consider getting medical insurance for everything but diabetes. You can get insured through a private company if they have an option to provide for everything but your preexisting condition. Then, at least you're covered for an emergency and regular check ups. You'll just need to pay for your diabetes visits and meds out of pocket. Not ideal, but something to consider. Hopefully, we'll all have access to insurance in 2012...
