I had to take my 5 year old for her annual check up today and I was so upset because she needed blood work and 2 shots and she was hysterical. My biggest fear is that one of my kids will end up with this terrible disease and I wouldnt know what to do if that ever happened. Now they are watching her thyroid because it seems to be borderline of underactive which I also have and am on medicine for. They do say the chances of kids getting diabetes is if the father is a diabetic which puts me a little more at ease.

3% chance is the basic number for a mother with T1. It's 1% for a child with
no T1 in the family.

If you had your child older than 30, the odds go down slightly. If you
were diagnosed before age 11, the odds go up slightly.

If the father has T1, the odds go up to 9%.

That said, I am a moderator on a small board for T1 mothers. There are 20 mothers in the group. Two of the children have been diagnosed with T1.

Do any of you have your children on Vitamin D supplements?
no I dont have them on any vitamin d, my 5 year old takes the childrens flinstone vitamins
I'm the only T1 in the family and I conceived my baby (currently 8 months pregnant) when I was over age 25. So, they tell me the odds of my baby developing Type 1 is the same as a "normal" woman's child.
