I am an adult with ADD have had it all my life, grade 6 they put me on ritalin, did not go well, then in college was on it, have not been on it since. I found if I keep my sugars normal and have a coffee when I am lets say distracted (lol) helps. I taught Taoist tai chi and found that if I needed to concentrate to teach others I needed a coffee (caffine) to keep me focused, when I did not come with a coffee the students learned that this could be a fun day since my concentration was not at it's best and could be distracted very easily. how do you all deal with your ADD?

Hi dishers! Thanks for posting.

Ritalin didn't work well for me either.. Tell more about what happened if you like. Have you thought about trying one of the newer options like adderall or vyvanse?

Not to say medication is the only form of treatment!

I am on Concerta and it works like a charm! I take 2 36mg pills a day.

hmm let's see. I only heard about that my parents put me on ritlin in grade six when I was re diagnosed as an adult when my son was diagnosed. Doctor found me to be restless while talking about my son. LOL, so they checked me also. LOL. explained a lot of things for me, I did not remember my parents putting me on it but was mentioned when I was telling them the story of being diagnosed. boy did that get me angry. All my life I was labeled as troubled, or not concentrating enough, class clown, I don't know how many pencils were taking from me from tapping them on the school tables without realizing till the teacher would come to me and take it. LOL so when in college I went back on as I could not concentrate in the class room with the heater clicking on all the time, other students goofing around etc... printers going off, was very distracting. only took it while in class time. I coped and having coffee or I guess caffine helped me alot would calm me down for a bit and help me concentrate a bit better. I bought a book called delivered from distraction, great book. hoping my family would read it. NOT.still considered the one who never listens or the one that has to always have the last word, etc.... but that is ok, with me know. my husband and kids love me and most of the time accept my short fuse, or blurting out at the wrong time, or having to go somewhere instead of relaxing time at home or my weird way of looking at things. LOL, if you have never looked at the book delievered from distraction you should amazing book, I did not have the attention span to actually read the book but found the audiobook for it. fantastic book that helped me understand myself and accept who I was and why I do the things I do. As for medication, I don't take anything, I found taking the med's took away my creativity that was a huge part of me, so I have learned to adapt only time I get myself into trouble is when I am down or someone has upset me but ya know there are alot of people that are not diabetic or ADD just normal people that seem alot worse off then I am so I am me and I am ok. Smiles

I too was on ritalin when i was younger and it made me like a zombie. I also require caffine to stay focused, i am a coffe junkie in the mornings LOL.
