TuDiabetes

I keep hearing, but not quite registering clearly, different versions of these ideas, any and all of which sound better to me than the mess we have now. For instance, I think people are speaking of different things when they speak of Single Payer and Universal Health Care. I am quite happy to use any definitions that we agree on and actually hope some of you can set me straight on what's what in this department. This is an excellent concept for a group; especially with discussions coming up in a political season. On this site alone, one could glean enough horror stories on healthcare snafus and disasters to launch a veritable movement!

Thanks for getting this started!.....Judith in Portland

Here are the wikipedia articles for both:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_payer_healthcare

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_healthcare

It's easier for me to imagine the implementation of a single payer system in America, but it's hard for me to imagine the source of the money. I love the universal healthcare idea... the statistics of our healthcare system in comparison to others are shocking!

As is the health insurance system in this country... the idea of significant financial gains made by denying necessary or lifesaving procedures is chilling.

I'm with Judith.. thanks for starting the group!
