Disability might be possible, but it's not very likely as far as I've heard. The main thing to talk about for it is NOT the diabetes, it's the way the complications have made it impossible to get and hold a job. As I understand it this would be very hard to sell to the Disability folks, who routinely refuse applicants, and the only way to get approved is to hire a lawyer to push it for you. Sad but true.
You may be able to get the situation considered online with some lawyer somewhere, but be careful doing so. Too many of them charge first and try later, if at all, or charge way too much of the result if they take it on for free.
theodure thanks for your info i do have an attorney the last job i had ayear ago i was self employed i misssed so much work i would have been fired by a regular employeer before that my eployer called the squad for me twice because i ppased out at work twice in a month do to low blood sugars i have documentation from my dr stating i am totally disabled due to my frozen shoulder and chronic pain i have been refused twice but now that i have a dr helping i think it will go through i want to know what is the average wait ? the attoney does seem to be in no hurrry they want to be able to get their full amount of pay that part is sad let me know if you have any other info thanks julie
I only know what I've heard, usually the lawyer takes as much as 1 year before they get it approved, though there are probably some that work faster, just like anything else.
When I didn't have insurance, I would go to the county health department. They wouldn't give me much test strips, maybe enough to check twice a day. But they would give me my insulin too.

There is a Walmart brand listed on there that only costs .44 a test strip

There are people that sell them on e-bay, sometimes near the end of their useful time, according to the expiration dates.
hi ev eryone it is the middle of july 2010 there are reviewing my case now i know prayer helps alot of things please pray for me!!!!! thanks julie
First let me say that I have been insulin Dependant for 33 years and that I have been on total disability since 2006. They deny 98% of ALL first time applicants. You can not receive disability for having diabetes alone...you MUST have complications...ie.....neuropathy,retinopathy,amputations....something that diabetes has caused to NOT allow you to work. You must have documentation...not just a note from your doctor.....that shows all your treatments, medicines and reason your primary care doctor says you can not work....then the fun begins...they send you to THEIR doctors (plural) ie.....neurologist,retina specialist, podiatrist, endocrinologist and finally yes a psychiatrist...then more fun begins, you wait for their determination which can last 6 months to a year. I waited 9 months...during that time I could not work...my wife worked 3 jobs to keep our heads about water. It is a tough road to hoe, but it can be done!! Message me if you want any more details!!! Alive And Well......... Mark
