How do they pay you to shop there?

Note: I don't use oral meds and only have insulin as a correction dosage. 1 bottle of insulin, if I could keep it, would last me a year.

Mine comes from OSU's student health center. I have the student insurance, so the supplies are free, sans insulins, which is still at a reduced price. If I wasn't paying thousands for tuition, it would be an amazing deal.

Correction:

It seems that the low dosages were at first. Lately, I have been using a lot more insulin due to heat and stress.

OSU = Ohio State University?

Also, where can I get Lantus without a prescription?
I have a type 1 friend that is 21 years old, no insurance, no job. Her family helps with some of the diabetic needs. Since she doesn't live alone, the government looks at her family's income and D/Q her from most assistance.

If I could find a way to buy Lantus, I could buy 2-3 bottles to get her by till this October when she can get on her parents insurance plan.

Right now, she gets only one bottle of Humalog per month. Not much for a type 1.

Yes, OSU is Ohio State University.

Insofar as I know, Lantus is by prescription only. I use it and love it, but the way healthcare seems to work, if a doctor prescribes a med, it requires a prescription. You could check and see if you could order it from Canada, though I've only heard of people doing that for supplies and not insulin.

If she sees a doctor or knows one, she could ask for a few "samples" from the doctor. If you have a good doctor, and they understand the situation, they could always give her a few pens for free. I used to do this in between my bachelors and masters degrees, and it worked well....doctors get samples, and aren't afraid to share them with people that need them.

I split up where I get my supplies from.

I get test strips from Kroger, and everything else from Wal*Mart.

 

Doc gave me 3 different kinds of insulin to try. Novolog, Apidra (fastest acting) and Levemir.

 

My last 2 a1c's were 5.3 and 5.2 .5.3 without insulin, 5.2 with insulin (but high summertime spikes though).

 

It's all the testing that is the expensive part.
