Just joined tudiabetes b/c I was looking for info on diabetics running marathons. I have done a few halves (PR-1:56:24) and plan on doing Chicago for my first full in October.I still need to join a charity (with my brother) since the registration is full...I'll be reading everything I can and thank the group in advance.

Great job, Dann! That is a terrific time, especially for your first 50. And I'm sure the mud didn't help your speed any.
I'm really inspired and impressed.

I completed my First 50 mile trail run the "Rocky Raccoon in Huntsville tx"this past weekend, It turned out to be a great day after 4hours of heavy rain (which ended 1 hour into race)so lots of mud -- but hey it was a trail run! I consumed 3Gu's, 4 Power Bar gels (vanillla contains more sodium and potassium then Gu and no caffeine),2 cliff gels,1 honey stiger waffle,6 power bar energy bites (protein),6 cliff shot bloks and 1 Ensure, many small cups of gatorade and heed, all that and 10:16 minutes later it was done. My Bld sugar was a little high at the end but at least I didn't ever go low:)I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to attempt an ultra--lots of support and a good course--I also reduce my basal rate by 50% for the whole run.

That's very exciting to hear that a few of you are signed up to do the Chicago Marathon!! There will be a TeamDiabetes participating in it as a fundraising team for the American Diabetes Association. And it's looking like TeamWILD is going to help with the training of that team!!!
