I ran my full marathon yesterday! My blood sugar wasn't fantastic, but I powered through it. I never lost the smile on my face because I couldn't believe I was doing it. Now on to train for my 50 mile bike race to cure this damn disease!

I drank like a quart of coconut water the week before this race and 8 oz during (515 mg...) and it didn't seem to matter. I'm hoping it will turn out to be the weights. I'd like to run a number in the 4s and ran one of the 20 mile runs in like 3:10 so 4 something shouldn't have been out of the question...it's only 6 more miles, lol...

Well I am game to run the Chicago with whoever feels like they will run about a 4 hour 30 minute (that's what I am striving for!) However, I may be overly optimistic. I guess I will know better as I train more!
Acid...have you tried taking a potassium supplement a week or two prior to the race? Maybe that would help. Do you think some of it could be coming from dehydration?

Good job on your race Jay and LOL @ being "marathoned out". I could get to that easily.

I'm not sure you'd want to run w/ me Dane, I blew up and ran 5:18 last year. I felt I ought to have run faster. I'll see if laying off the weights helps and get back to you? It sounds like there's several members running though...

So cool to see other diabetic runners doing so well...it is so motivating! I did my last half of the season at 4:04:30 so acid, you and I may be on pace to run Chicago together?! I start training next week after taking two weeks off. Awesome job to Jay...I would love to do so well! Was Insulindependence at your race? I know they were doing one up in that area soon?

Did the Pittsburgh Marathon today in my home town. After running the first half in 1:43 and feeling great, had some serious issues with the sun and heat dropping me low at Mile 17. Had to walk a while to recover and finished just under 4 hours. This was my third marathon in the past seven months. That was a great time-travelling to Columbus with the whole family and Miami with my wife, as well as fitting in a camping trip around a beautiful half along the Clarion River in March, running a PR of 1:36. I'm going to focus on 5K to Half Marathon distances for the next few months, and maybe a sprint triathalon. For right now, I'm marathoned out. Good luck to everyone else who is training for one!

Hmmm, I was eating leafy green veggies (like 4x servings/ day?) pretty much right up until the race. I also have been lifting, specifically knee extensions and then these things w/ the velcro around my ankle, pulling my leg back, that hit glutes, 3x 70 lb, 3x/ week on each. I have another 1/2 060312 so I'll knock off the weights and keep eating the veggies.
