Comment by acidrock23 on December 3, 2012 at 8:03pm It was like 70 here in Chicago today, it must have been brutal in Florida! I agree that there's a certain toughness to pounding through that stuff but man, 2011 in Chicago sucked for me. I'm certain that I've never been that miserable. It was only knowing how stuff in Chicago works and that it would have taken hours to get golf-carted back to the finish line that kept me going. Running low is hard work!
Comment by Jerry Nairn on December 3, 2012 at 6:50pm Congratulations on your finish, Dane, and kudos for having a great attitude about working through the challenges. I hope you're able to figure out what went wrong with your blood sugar and how to avoid it in the future.

Comment by acidrock23 on December 1, 2012 at 6:22am If you want to run 5Ks, sign up for one! If you're running 25-30 minutes already, you can do it! I usually get a lot of energy at races, just the lining up in a crowd on nice morning, etc.!
Comment by Kurt on December 1, 2012 at 5:23am just saying hi, new to the group manchester, nh here looking to do some 5K's
Comment by wayna on November 29, 2012 at 4:48am I did..Jerry... I love the running the way I feel afterwards it the best part... Acidrock I took the monday off and went to work on that tuesday... if I had to work that monday I would have been in tears all day.. I did take this week off or at least part of it.. I am trying to streak it.. till the end of the year. by getting at least a mile in every day.. this week I am doing good. so we will see.
Comment by Jerry Nairn on November 28, 2012 at 6:08pm Congrats, wayna, you marathoner, you! And don't stop coming around here just because you're moving on to the 5K. (Didn't you just do 8 5Ks in a row?)
Comment by acidrock23 on November 28, 2012 at 4:06pm That's awesome Wayna!! It sounds like you had a plan and stuck to it and had a great experience!! You are a lot tougher than I am if you went to work the next day! I went and got a massage.
Comment by wayna on November 28, 2012 at 9:11am I did it... I am slow about posting and running but I finished my first full marathon 7:33 later I wasnt the last one there was 2 people behind me.. would I do it again yes... just not this year... my plans for this year is to start with the basics couch to 5k I plan on running the full 3.1 miles...
I stayed with eating the whole run.. meaning I did eat sandwiches (turkey and white bread and a pbj) this let me get thru the whole marathon slow but I am ok with that.. I also had 4 muliti vitamans (source life of life) 2 at the begaining and 2 at the half way point.. I was able to finish standing up and walking to the car to go home with out being sick.. also able to go to work one day later.. what I learn was that even being a type 2 I can and did do a full marathon.. my sugars are doing good went to the doctors on my day off to have the sugars checked the a1c came back as 6.9 and the other test were great.. my doc was proud of me.. I was proud of me... thanks to my mom who set in my car for 4 hours waiting on me to finish and to my road crew that took pictures and get me past the wall.. and to the the site here.. I had a great time.
Comment by MarathonMan on November 10, 2012 at 11:23pm Hello Everyone,
After 15 years since my last marathon, and now I've lost 50 lbs since my diagnosis, I'm rarin to go and run a marathon. I'm up to about an hour a day of jogging (note I say jogging LOL), so looking to exchange ideas with others, especially type 2's (who take no meds or insulin) to see what strategies you are using. Especially when doing long runs.
