I've tried putting extra stuff on a loose infusion site, IV 3000, bandages, etc. Most of them were no help or ended up putting more strain on the site and maybe pulling it out faster.
Surgical tape has worked for me sometimes, but it gets a lot of sticky residue all over.
For me, it makes a big difference where I put the site. If I know I have a long run coming up, I may put the site around my side or back, love handles. I'll try to avoid the area of my abdomen that stretches and contracts with every step.

The second set sounds like a good idea. I don't think i'll try the plastic prongs idea.
DO you put some kind of plaster on and if you do how do you keep it from pulling the set out when you're done

Lol.i find the Triton comment funny because the first time I had an issue I actually tried doing that but I couldn't get it to work.the little needle was just too short.next time I may try that a little harder.

For an important event, like a marathon, I will often put in an extra infusion site, just in case the one I'm using pulls out. For a training run, I think you did fine. Some times there's nothing you can do. I've cut runs short a few times due to infusion sites falling out.
I know a certain dedicated runner who has used an alternative solution. Do you know how there is a connector on Medtronic Silhouette or Animas Comfort infusion sets that looks like a triton, with a metal needle in the middle between two plastic prongs? It's possible to break the prongs off this thing and stick that needle directly into your skin to give yourself a bolus.
I've never done that, and I'm not recommending it. I'm just saying I know someone a little more hardcore than me who has done that in an emergency.

I hate when that happens.i would just carry abottle of humolog and syringe for when that happens. It sucked for me this past weekend I took the boy scouts camping and hiking and my set came out because I was sweating so much.hat to go to backup plan which was bottle and syringe.I'm learning that I need to bring extra sets.something you may try is a big plastic band aid type thing to cover it.when I use it it seems to hold the adhesive on both the infusion set and the Cgm.the one I use I get from edgepark medical.its called IV 3000 I think.

My pump got disconnected for the first time during a run (insertion set fell out). I also saw a body in the river. any advice? (about the pump that is)

I started lowering my basal to 50%. I haven't had any lows but am still not sure it's low enough.

For the first 2 years that i wore the pump (minimed) I would take it off to run, for fear of going hypo. talked to another endocrinologist that said that was not a good idea, the body needs some insulin at all times--he suggested reducing my basal rate. I now reduce basal by 50% on all runs(no matter the duration of run), I also eat an hour before my run and take a small bolus with that--during a run over an hour I take a GU every 45 mins and my blood sugars are always 70-140 when I am finished, I have also switched to the Omnipod( use a little hypafix tape during run ) it does not bother me at all while running--minimed was kind of a hassle to run with.

Way to go Julie!! I had looked at Grandma's too, as my mom's family are from Superior, but am waiting until Chicago to run my first b/c it will be a lot more fun running in Chicago humidity and tornadoes.

Going back a few comments to the comment re water instead of Gatorade, I'd always had a bottle of each on my belt and on one of the balmy days we've had recently, I tried putting a small amount of the Gatorade powder, 10-11g (I have a scale anyway...) into an 8 oz bottle, and then the 45G into the the other bottle. The 10-11G of carb Gatorade is pretty good stuff! and, despite the pale mix, tastes more cathartic than water on a hot day! I probably said this somewhere else, or maybe on the Forum but I like the powder b/c you can put in however much of it works for you pretty easily witha scale.
