Cherise, Look at all of us who have gone through many lasers, galucoma surgeries, vitrectomies, etc. we are still on the internet and seeing well enough to enjoy our days. Good to have the support of others and know that we all support you!

@ Cherise,

best of luck. you have just intraretinal hemorrhages and the beginnings of background diabetic retinopathy?

Cherise - I DO THINK SO. although in reality, the bleed cannot be "reversed" in any way, your eye doc may be thinking he can stop the progression of retinopathy with laser surgery (this is the most accepted and painless way for diabetics.) I have had over 30 lasers and 5 "vitrectomies" (the most offensive and painful for diabetics) if he plsns to do this, It is usually when the bleed has gone to the stage when the blood is blocking your vision, I do hope this doesnt happen to you, but if it does and your eye doc is a really skilled guy the surgery CAN be less offensive and painful....good luck, and PEACE

I was diagnosed with the beginning stages of diabetic retinopathy last week. I have a slight bleed in the left eye but my eye doc said there's a good chance for it to be reversed. I will find out if the increased testing and monitoring 8 to 10 times per day from 4 times will help.

Hello, I was dx. with retinopathy on both eyes back in 1988. And I have be stable since then. I also had cataracts removed from both eyes. Now I have central vision of 20/60 and 2080 and limited peripheral vision. I can't drive and I can't see distance and I use glasses for reading and the computer plus I zoom the screen to 150 % . So anyway I just wanted to let those who were facing this that you can get this under control enough not to go completely blind. I didn't start bs testing until after the retinopathy. Good control helps.

I lost 90% of my night vision went for a eye exam got told my eyes looked good, but had the first stages of Glaucoma. The doctor said my eyes pressures were normal so he wasn't sure exactly what caused it. The doctor blamed it on my diabetes said he would run more test in about 3 months to see if there were any changes. If there were then he would start a treatment program.

missrobbie- You may have to, I did and am now on disabilily, but the fight with the gov't was long and arduous as well as expensive. My advice to you is take extensive notes about every doctor's appt. you have as well as hiring a VERY GOOD law firm, the firm that helped me out the most was Binder & Binder. They are accessible at Binderandbinder.com. They were VERY good (although, again, expensive...but, from my pov, worth every penny. And, they only collect if you win) The most important thing is a good eye doc who understands your case and agrees with what you are trying to accokplish. Good luck, and if you want to read more about my case go to www.supportersofsurvivors.com where my book is, nohing for sale there, I promise! PEACE

If you have retinopathy, do i have to start thinking about getting on disability/SSI? My job is doing clerical work in front of a computer and sometimes processing mail/forms. My condition, I have retinopathy in both eyes .My left eye had a hemorrhoids (can't see 100%, vision so so) so i'm using my one "good " right eye to do my job at work on the computer. I'm torn over this issue.

I had Macular disorder (CNVM). Got it right in center of the right eye. Had Laser and one injection which used to be imported from switzerland. I was not diabetic then. Now i am diabetic and pray that i may not see the opration table. I fear those surgery table light and the atmosphere is just frightening.
