Does anyone know what meter Dr. Bernstein currently recommends. I saw him 7 years ago and he recommended the Bayer Contour. I'm still using it, but am suspicious of the readings lately. Maybe it's…Continue

Hi All,Currently Im eating about 35 carbs a day. However I am having to dose 2.5-3.0 units a meal for protein in addition to my carb bolus. Is this common for low carb eating? Thanks.Continue

feeling unwell at 85 usually means you are running your BG high. I used to run nearer 130[7.2], but have brought it down over a few years. I feel absolutely fine at 55 [3] . A bit hungry perhaps, but that's all. However if I were to be hit by a bus[ a distinct possibility the way they drive around here] the paramedics would be panicking about hypos. They are so fixated on "4 is the floor".
Most of each day I'm about 5 [90] I try not to get to 6 [108] at any time. However. As I said about Targets.I do SOMETIMES get that high. I know Doctors oten discourage tight control, because of the ACCORD study, which they think proved it's dangerous. I think it proves that multiple drugs in high doses are dangerous. No-one has studied diet-managed tight control.
It's illogical to think that Normal non-diabetic blood sugars in and of themselves are harmful How come the non-diabetics are healthy if that's the case?

Comment by Sheila Fitz on April 13, 2012 at 8:38pm Trudy, I hear you, believe me, but the problem is that I also take two Pilates classes a week which are marvelous for maintaining strength and range of motion, but they do not bring down my bg like Zumba or the Cardio Kickboxing. Sure, any movement helps my bg - even shopping at Costco, but to get great results, I have to work really hard. What I don't understand is that I woke up with tolerable pain after those burpees. Every morning is a surprise. I could hardly get in and out of a car for three days after a Pilates class last weekend, followed by Zumba, but I swear the Pilates did me in. The more correctly I do it, the harder it gets. I wish I could tolerate a bike. I have to dance. It is the only thing that keeps me going. However, I tried to run on a treadmill last week, and found my joints can't handle it, yet. There is a fast paced yoga at my health club called "Flow" something or other. I may try that. We should have a group on Tu for those with RA. I figured I wasn't alone, especially in the Type 1's or LADA.

Comment by muleman on April 13, 2012 at 1:45pm onesaint. Well hello rich guy! OOPs , did you say $100.000? No you wouldn't say something like that would you? obviously a typo!
Comment by muleman on April 13, 2012 at 1:41pm Hana, I agree with you in principle, but!. Not only cannot I get to 85 my Doc's discourage it, and I don't feel as well at 85 as I do with a higher number! But we are all a little different from each other. Size in itself, I have learnt makes numbers change compared to smaller people! The world is a Tutti Frutti of peoples and differences!
Comment by Trudy on April 13, 2012 at 5:51am Hi Sheila Fitz. I'm sorry that you have RA to deal with. I had Juvenile RA, so I know that figuring out good exercises can be a challenge. I found bike riding is great; others I know swear by yoga. It's not worthwhile to feel crippled; the right exercises wind up making you feel better.
Comment by Sheila Fitz on April 12, 2012 at 8:13pm For me, the frustrating part is that often it is not about what I eat or don't eat, it's pain. I've got most of the antibodies to dx RA, and I exercise intensely to keep bg down. It really works, but keeping a balance is hard. Taking NSAIDS helps me keep bg down. Stress from my kids is also something I can't control. All my doctors get this wild look in their eyes if I even hint that I'm letting up on exercising because it has done wonders, but I'm 58yo in the early stages of RA, and it isn't easy to exercise some days. I got talked into a cardio kickboxing class tonight and was doing burpees. I'll probably be crippled in the am, but the bg will be great.
Comment by Trudy on April 12, 2012 at 5:48pm Hi Hana. I agree with you that we need good targets, but my fear is that someone who is unable to reach theirs for whatever reason becomes discouraged. Many of us need to work on motivation, especially when so many obstacles can be thrown in our paths.
Comment by onesaint on April 12, 2012 at 1:37pm Although, I don't think it's a joke, I still had a ROFL at
I have $100,000 invested in a company that manufactures dialysis machines

I realise that keeping BG to 85 [4.7mmol/l] isn't easy, but the point I try to make is that it should be the TARGET.
Accepting that something is difficult and may not be achieved, is no excuse for changing the target.
