Shelters or some kind of governmental financial help in Orlando, FL?
Okay so not exactly "Diabetes" related but I am in a bit of a dilemma here. On the 12th of this month, our electricity gets shut off. It's bad enough that I have not had any mental meds since 2005 and any diabetes meds since July 2008 (I have applied countless times at SS for disability for my Manic Depression/Bipolar Disorder/BDD/OCD/Dermatillomania/Slipped Capital Femural Epiphysis/High Blodd Pressure/Diabetes Mellitus Type II UNCONTROLLED and have been rejected more times than I can count, and have also applied at medicaid and told I only qualify for "Shared Cost" knowing I have no job or way of providing for myself at the moment because of my ailments. I make $0/week/month/year at the moment.) but now, this. I live with the only family I have left and they are also going through this. No friends in Orlando, no car, no bus fare money, no dinner last night. My mother is a diabetic as well. Any suggestions on what we can do to get help? We have a past due electricity (OUC will kill you if you let them, I swear...) bill of about $266 and then the other bill which comes in like a week or two will be $300 or more. Any suggestions are appreciated. At first I felt embarrassed exposing myself in such a public site but then I figured at this point, the "rock bottom" point, what do I have to lose? I have more to gain than to lose, right? Thanks in advance. XOXO! ♥

The only advice i can give you is to get a lawyer for the ss benefits, as they wont ask for upfront they will just take a small percentage from your back pay after you are approved. Same thing happened to me i was in a nursing home for a year until i finally got approved, and it was a long haul but was worth it. I hope this helps and you find a solution to your predicament.

There are groups in Orlando that can help you. I would try your local church, soup kitchen, Meals on Wheels or something like that.
There is also something called Insurance for the Medically Needy that your medicaid representative should have told you about.

I'm going thru the same ordel with SS disability for my 13 year old daughter who is diabetic, but also suffers from bipolar and adhd and asthma and they have denied her several times too, so I hired a lawyer and let them handle it, I'm still waiting but it looks good because they don't get paid if they don't win the case in court. I see a judge to plea my case in Jan 11 but it's foot in the door after so many years fighting the corrupted system to get her what she needs. Don't give up the fight , because that's what the system wants for people to give up and not fight for their rights. Look for a lawyer and start the process again. Good luck and keep your head up and have faith.
