Does any body have a green smoothie recipe with no fruit they could share with me? I have just finished reading the book 12 Steps to Raw Foods by: Victoria Boutenko and she has green smoothie recopies and swears by them. However, hers are made with fruit.

Thanks!!

Rebecca, I have lost 20 lbs in just a few months when I switched to be a vegan. In my opinion, the crucial ingredients are the very low fat and very low glycemic index foods. Is this what you are doing? Even if you do, you can still scrutinize your cooking or what you eat to see if you can cut back some more.

By the way, this week has been filled with reading..(I've had a slight cold so I've been in bed). I finally read The Egine 2 diet cover to cover, re-reading You Are What You Eat, by Gillian McKeith, The Soy Zone, Volumetrics, Skinny #itch, and Marilu Henner's older book on vegan health too. I have also spent hours on the internet doing research. My head is filled with information. But the question is, is it the right information?

The hubby and I went vegan last weekend. I"ve been a pesco-vegetarian for many years and we decided to try this for at least 21 days. So far ,so good. My BG's have been lower overall. When it wasn't on target it was clearly my fault for not bolusing enough. My BG's before and during the holidays were horrible...often drifting in the 400's. I'm probably averaging 140 now.

My issue is still the weight gain. I cannot seem to drop an ounce. Or I do...and I feel elated...and the next day it's back up again. I can't seem to stop worrying and this 10 or so pounds I've gain since being on this pump.

Any suggestions other than throwing the scale out the window or going on a juice fast? I'm really REALLY fed up.

So, now I've been reading Dr. Ornish's "Eat More, Weigh Less". It's very similar to Dr. Barnard's suggestions except for the fact that is is very low fat. 10% to be specific. It also allows for fat free dairy products, which Dr. Barnard does not. I am going to give it a try. I will combine the two diet suggestions for a vegetarian/ almost vegan diet. Day one went ok, except I grabbed about a 1/2 ounce of cashews as my dinner ( a Dr. Ornish no-no). We'll see how it goes and I'l let you know.

Concerning stopping the Lipitor, at my recent visit with my doctor she suggested that I should stay on this very low dose (10mg) even though all my lipid panel values were in a very good range except my HDL is still low. I know that Lipitor will not help raise HDL she said that Lipitor has other benefits. My HbA1C was 6.1.

They seem pretty much the same to me, the Engine 2 and Dr. Barnard's diet.

By the way, I've lost 10 kgs now and I feel really great. I have lots of energy and that's really astonishing as I have been suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome
since 17 years.
I also find it very easy to stick to the diet.

@ Rebecca
How are you doing now?

@Jamie
Were you able to stop the Lipitor?

I have never heard of the Engine 2 diet.
