Although the Insulinx meter has been approved for sale in the United States it's features have been limited by the FDA. The current version sold in the US does not have the Bolus Calculator feature. Please consider this if you are planning to purchase

Comment by dishers on February 8, 2013 at 5:00am I am in Canada (ontario) and the stops I use are freestyle light.
on another note, diabetes educator asked if I had calibrated my meter, I said no, that I did not know how. she told me to test next time I go to get my A1C, but I am unsure how to do this exactly. they told me to test right when they are taking my blood and then mark it down and when my results come back check to see. this does not make sense to me since my A1C as you all know is an average over 3 months so can anyone explain this to me please?

Comment by Marfem on February 6, 2013 at 12:11pm I have a love/hate relationship with this meter. I love the fact that it does my calculations for me (I'm in Canada), but I need much more accurate Insulin Carb Ratios than what it does. The meter will only take whole numbers and since I have insulin resistance, I need to be able to fine tune it. I set up my meter by myself, but only do that if you really know what you are doing!
Comment by Emmy on February 6, 2013 at 10:47am It still is a very accurate meter and it does now allow you to mark if the test was before or after a meal, which is good.
Comment by Emmy on February 6, 2013 at 10:46am I just downloaded and skimmed the USA manual, looks like it does not do insulin calculations. This is probably because the FDA would not approve it for use in the USA. Here in Canada, you have to be trained and it has to be set up by a diabetes educator or doctor trained to do it.
Comment by Emmy on February 6, 2013 at 10:38am Hi dishers,
I'm really surprised that it doesn't do the calculations, what's the point? It is a cool looking meter, but the calculator is the whole point, although it does allow you to log when you took the reading, which is new to Freestyle meters. Still, it must be disappointing.

Comment by dishers on February 2, 2013 at 4:44am I have been reading the thread, thanks for your reply Emmy,
for the meter in the states I don't think it has the calculator in it, was reading how upset they were. this might be different now but I don't think so. as for batteries all you need to do is call the company and they will send you batteries, my first meter was defective and they thought it may be the batteries, ummm no, but they sent me batteries. this one so far has been great
