The Insulinx meter needs a software update. If you have this meter please go to the links for the USA http://www.abbott.com/press-release/abbott-initiates-voluntary-reca...

or outside the USA
http://www.freestyleinsulinx.com/swupdate/indexous.html

You can download the software to your computer if you don't already have it. If you have it, you just have to update it and then use the cable to plug your meter into your computer and install the updates following the instructions on the links. Its an easy fix. Just did it with mine. The meter does NOT have to be returned.

If you don't have the cable made for this meter, they tell you which type you can use. My meter came with the cable, I think they probably all did.

It appears that I was wrong in my earlier post. The Insulinx meter recall also involves meter sold outside the US. For more information please visit this site.http://www.freestyleinsulinx.com/swupdate/indexous.html

I have learned that Abbott has issued a recall of Insulinx meters sold in the US. I don't believe that it affects models sold outside the US on models that read out in mmol instead of in mg/dl as US models do.

It is reported that at extremely high reading above 1024 mg/dl that an inaccurate reading will be displayed.

You can read more about it here,http://www.abbott.com/press-release/abbott-initiates-voluntary-reca...

Has anyone heard when or if they will update to work with ox mountain lion? The meter grew on me and it is my trusted friend but would love it better if it worked on my mac.

Just got mine! Only used it once. I need to finish off my old strips, before they expire. Will update when I have tried it. I do like the touch screen and the cord to connect to my computer.

Hi Dishers, Stemwinder is correct, you need a glucose lab test, NOT an A1c. A random or fasting glucose lab test, along with a reading on your meter done at the same time, will tell you how accurate your meter is. You can do as many meters as you want. I did 2 last time I had this done, both were Freestyle meters and both came within 1/10 of a point of the lab results, which is very accurate.
Just tell you doctor you want to get your meters calibrated, and you need a random glucose test done at the lab. Make sure you write down the reading, and the lab will probably want to write it down too. Then when your test comes back from the lab, you simply compare the readings.

Hi Dishers, Thanks for the welcome.

You can check your meter against lab results. You can do it when you go give lab samples. Test at that time and record your read, then when Lab results come back compare your read to the labs BG reading.

If all your doing is an A1c then it would not help you. I can see where the confusion comes from.

I would like to introduce myself to this group. My name is Gary. I'm going to help Emmy until she is well. I am a pump user and because the bolus wizard on my pump does what the Insulinx meter does I do not need one, since it has it's own meter connected to it I have to use it.

When I heard about the Insulinx I was still on MDI and was excited but soon learned its was not availiable in the US at that time. I have just learned that the recently approved US version does not have the insulin calculator. I guess it just wasn't meant to be for me.

I will be glad to help when I can. I want to thank Emmy for trusting me to help moderate this group
