I am choosing to be lazy so I am not checking the Dexcom group and will count on you to educate me on the pros and cons on the Dexcom CGMS. I am a bit prejudiced because I had the first generation Dexcom (think: Flintstones) and it was so bad it could never calibrate my blood sugar due to my natural fluctuations (I go from really high to really low and vice versa in short amounts of time) and it would assume it was a software error so it would prompt me to recalibrate which resulted in an endless loop. I could go on and on about the shortcomings of the design but it seems like it was a throwaway version and the new Dexcom CGMS is nothing like it so I have to be open minded :) I am so bummed because having a CGMS made a huge difference in my diabetes care and management. For years I couldn't budge my A1C despite checking my blood sugar 8-10 times a day because I didn't have enough information. With my CGMS I was able to chip away at my basal rates (starting with midnight) until I achieved a flat line from midnight until 8 am. I was just starting to address exercising when my unit broke. Since then I have been experiencing many scary lows (in the 30's) which makes me sad because I know an alarm would have gone off before I got that low if I had my Navigator. I know I've made progress, however, because the other day I was bored and scrolled through my pump Total Dose history. I was amazed to see that my daily basal vs. bolus was 50/50. My endo kept telling me to wait for the Navigator (he was a test site) so I have an affinity to it. I was feeling burned out last summer and wanted to walk away from my diabetes but the Navigator came along at the perfect time and made a huge difference in my life. A little effort (vs the huge effort I was making before) made a HUGE difference in my A1C and it proved that my high A1C wasn't due to me, it was due to a lack of information :)

I joined the Dexcom group this afternoon & saw your post there about the offer. I called Dexcom & took them up on it. They actually just received the rest of my paperwork today. As soon as I get my check from Abbott, I can call them to pay for it and they will ship it out right away. I will still work with the supply company on getting sensors.

Dexcom has a special extension for people who want to move from Navigator to Dexcom. Their phone service crashed today but they said that it should be working very soon.

They have a special Dexcom price for people who are leaving Navigator. It is $999 and includes 4 sensors and the Dexcom CGM unit.

Today my hemoglobin A1c was up to 7.1. I had problems adjusting to the Navigator even before it stopped working. That is my official excuse and I am standing by it. On the bright side though, my eye exam was perfect and I do not have any neuropathy.

To Doug: Yes I am a physician but NOT an endocrinologist--years ago, when I first got diabetes, I noticed acute blurred vision, extreme thirst and lethargy. I ordered labs on myself and they came back panic level. I got a meter from my office and it just said "High" so I paged my internist. My first endo tried to treat me as a type II and I just kept getting skinnier and had bad numbers. When my dietician tactfully asked whether I might have an eating disorder, I knew that I had type I. I demanded that they put me on insulin. I gained back some of the weight and my numbers got better. I also got a new endocrinologist.

I'm going to wait it out. When it has worked I have loved it, and I do not feel I would be as happy with the other CGMs.

I liked my Navigator (my A1C went from 8.9 to 6.8 in two months) and was looking forward to them correcting some issues with the new release. I was extremely frustrated with the lack of communication so I am happy they are finally speaking to their customers. I will wait it out as well because the other options don't appeal to me.

still using a Cozmo here too...

I'm with you, Stacey. I have NO regrets about sticking with the Navigator and firmly believe they will resolve their issues. After talking with my friend at Abbott, I think it's just an unfortunate chain of events and all will be resolved. They are bending over backwards to try to answer customers' questions and offer reimbursements to those inconvenienced by the supply disruption. I've been on the product for a year and a half and have no intention of jumping ship.

I plan to attend a meeting with some Abbott folks and the doctors from my endocrinology practice to share my input as a user and customer in about 2 weeks. I'll be happy to share your concerns there, folks, for what it's worth.

But all this talk of lawsuits and stuff...I don't understand. It's not a pump - a disruption like this isn't life-threatening, even though the CGM is so important to our care. We all lived without it and will likely continue thriving. The company is more than willing to reimburse dissatisfied customers and provide you with the opportunity to switch to a competing product. But unless you are just supremely fed up, I would like to encourage you guys to stick with the product. There's no reason to assume they will go the way of the Cozmo just yet.

I am a new user, was approved two months ago. The insurance actually paid for the Navigator. I received a box of strips and no kit. I got a call today and they suggested that I look into "another option".

Do I just get another CGM? Please tell me if it worth the wait (possibly months) for the Navigator.
