hi angelica, i really don't know much about type 1's. other then not many type 1's have the surgery. but there have been a few. in one of my posts there is a few sites to go to to learn about gastric bypass. as in everything there are always risks. but with the advent of authroscopic surgery a lot of the risks have been reduced. first and foremost it has to be your decision to have the surgery. that means learning as much as you can before you make that decision. if your gastric teams works the same way mine does they start out with a group meeting (seminar) with anyone who may be interested in the surgery. they will give you more information then. not everyone in that seminar will go through with the surgery. at any time throughout the coming months you can change your mind. even on the day of the surgery. i had my surgery in may. i have lost about 64 pounds so far. i have about another 45 to go. my surgery was about as easy as it can get. my doctor was thrilled with how i bounced back from it. not everyone is that lucky. i still have to be careful of what i eat because i can and do still throw it back up if i eat too fast or eat something my new stomach is just not ready for. listen to your gastric bypass doctor. he won't steer you wrong. don't let others telling war stories get to you. everyone seems to be able to bring out those stories but forget all the good stories. and the good stories far outweigh the bad. ultimately what you decide comes from you. you will know what is best for you. if you need to talk just e-mail me.. debblahnen1956@yahoo.com, or you can find me on facebook. best of luck.
