Well my daughter is 22, and 6 yrs ago my diabetes came back full force. I was type 1 automatically. I am on the pump and love it. I drink bitter melon tea which helps keep my sugar low, and also drink acai berry drink that help with blood sugar, and high blood pressure. I have no high cholesterol, no blood pressure issues, and only have the pump, which I use U-500 for insulin.

Oh I wish I would have found this a year and a half ago! Had one baby...all was great. 2nd pregnancy TOTALLY different! @ 28 weeks diagnosed with GD. Had my lil princess in Oct, 4 weeks early. At my six week check-up BS was 212, Started monitoring it and come January when I had to go back to work....I was waking up in the high 200's and 300's. Bad stuff. Internist couldn't figure out what was wrong with me tried metformin with glyburide....nothing. Finally sent me to an Endo and started insulin in Feb 2010. Been an adventure ever since. Just thankful everyday that it's me and not my girls and that they are both perfectly healthy. Nice to find all you ladies!!!

Wow...my GD baby turned 21 last weekend & we were there to share it with him :) I was told my diabetes would go away after I delivered him. Six months later my eyesight become a bit blurry & I consulted my husband (who had worn glasses for many years). He said he thought it was crazy for my eyesight to change to quickly. I consulted my OB GYN practice who referred me for an eye exam where I was told "your eyes are fine, your diabetes is back" :/ and so it has been. Oh well, I consider myself lucky that this, diabetes, is what I have. Interested to hear other stories & Much luck to everyone :)

i was diagnosed late in my second trimester at age 38. for about a week, they thought i had GD, but GAD-65 testing proved otherwise. it has been my understanding that diagnosis of GD that "turns into T1" is really a missed diagnosis of T1 in the first place (told this by physicians at both Stanford and UCSF). It is my understanding that most true GD are at risk for later onset T2, not T1. Type 1 (LADA, 1.5) does not come on as suddenly in adults as T1 does in kids, so those of us who ended up getting diagnosed were probably dealing with blood sugar instability long before our pregnancies. those of us with fertility issues most certainly had insulin issues. i learned that a fasting blood sugar will not always tell you if you are diabetic, particularly if you still have some beta cell function. you can lose 70% of your function before symptoms are apparent. Our pregnancies are most likely what put our pancreas over the edge, but was not the actual trigger that made us T1. i also did fertility therapy with my first pregnancy, and often ponder the connection between powerful drugs and autoimmune disease. As a side note, I took Accutane several years ago. There are now many claims that it is linked to T1 and other chronic autoimmune diseases, such as Crohns. I am also part of diabeticmommy forum. happy to have found you all on tudiabetes!

GD with both my pregnancies. About 4 years after my last was born, got T1. No history in my family (that I know of). But I did feel like something was "coming down the road," and so wasn't that shocked when I got diagnosed...

I was diagnosed with "GD" within about 3 weeks of being pregnant with my first baby. I guess this means that it wasn't really GD, but instead something else but made worse by the pregnancy.

Now I got diagnosed again 15 months after my baby was born (got 'triggered" by a dose of steroids given as part of fertility treatment), and I am now on insulin in preparation for my next pregnancy (IUI a week ago).. No idea of what type and since I'm on insulin, I guess it doesnt' matter for now.

The key to LADA is that you have few other symproms for Diabetes. I have great Triglycerides, Choleresterol, weight, etc... Get your GAD-65 checked by a real Endocrinologist and keep up with your daily fasting BG's. LADA has caused me a lot of confusion , but now since I am a full feldged T1 it's actually easier. I don't have to guess what carbs are going to do. I know. They make by BG's skyrocket and I have to do things the right way now and listen to my doctors or I will be sicker than I ever have before. Keep in touch. I'm here for you. I need all the female T1 contacts I can! best wishes & kind regards, Rebecca. PS Look me up on facebook if you're on there.

I had GD with both of my pregnancies, and was pretty much told my days were numbered b/c my grandfather was Type 1. It was about 6 1/2 years after my last pregnancy before I was officially diagnosed. I was pretty sick for about a year prior to diagnosis. I really know nothing about LADA, it's never even been mentioned to me. My grandfather was diagnosed at 25, I was 31.
