Hello all,
I was diagnosed with Hashimotos about 6 years ago. recently my doctor put me on meds with my tsh at 0.6. t3 122 (107-180)and t4 9.4. (4.5-12.0)before meds. 2 weeks into meds only on 7mg of armour I had high heart rate, tightness in chest and a dry cough. had to stop meds. could I have a pituarty gland problem with this low of tsh and why can't I take the meds? ugh so frustrating. I've always been thin even when diagnosed with hashis, but recently went up a size in my jeans. I seem to be gaiing with normal eating and excersize 5 days a week an hour a day. anyone have similar experience and what did you do? Thanks! :)

Permalink Reply by smalls on May 2, 2012 at 8:19am meaning I need to be medicated? or did he do wrong by giving me thyroid meds? Ive been to 5 endos and none want to treat me cause my tsh is on the low side, but I have all the symptoms. going bald on the top of my head, eyebrows are thinning, tired ALL the time, dry hair, dry skin and the list goes on. the problem is when they gave me thyroid meds my heart rate went up, had no hyper symptoms and i was only on 7mg of armour. so frustrating. I am now seeing a holistic doc who gave me the armour. Thanks for your reply!
Permalink Reply by Mark on May 2, 2012 at 9:07am Your TSH is low normal, and your T3 and T4 are normal. Did you get tested for antibodies to thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin that truly diagnoses Hashimotos? The fact that you responded to the small dose of Armour (T3 + T4) as HYPERthyroid must mean something else is going on- not a thyroid problem. Other meds? High doses of vitamins or herbal stuff?
Permalink Reply by smalls on May 2, 2012 at 10:53am yes I was tested for hashimotos, and my antibodies were over 1000, I have a goiter and nodules that were biopsy. when I was on the thryoid meds I had no hyper symptoms except for the heart rate and tightness in chest. no vitamins I worry about my kidneys being that I do have some kidney issues. no herbal stuff either. not sure if my kidneys have anything to do with it. my creatine is a 1.7. Same diet I have always been on. and I wasn't dignosed by my symptoms I just though my tiredness was from having diabetes so long 36 years so I just assumed that. I was at an ent for an ear infection and he said that my thyroid was enlarged needed to see a endo. so from there I went.thank you so much again for all you help!! :)

Permalink Reply by Gerri on May 2, 2012 at 9:13am You could have a adrenal problem, which is common with Hashimoto's. Best to have cortisol tested. What you want is a saliva test that tests cortisol 4x day. If your doctor won't do this, there are labs where you can pay for this yourself. It's not expensive.
Permalink Reply by smalls on May 2, 2012 at 10:55am I did hear of that but most docs don't believe in the saliva testing, would they even take that into consideration and medicate me with those results? I"m sure I have it, my body has been under stress for years with the diabetes and compliactions, and now my thyroid issue. I did get the blood test and that came back normal for the cortisol test? thank you!

Permalink Reply by Gerri on May 2, 2012 at 11:23am The serum cortisol test isn't particularly helpful. I'm paying for a saliva test myself because I know my adrenals are wrecked. There are ways to treat adrenals youself. Good info http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/
Ashwagandha is a good herb for adrenal problems & you can't take it for a week before saliva testing.
Highly recommend joining http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Iodine/ to help with goiters & nodules.
