OK, so as the date approaches that I'm getting my first tattoo and I'm trying to keep my BG levels in control, do you guys have a suggestions as to what levels are the lowest and/or highest that I should have my BG levels during the procedure. I know I will be checking my BG before, during and after, but I am not sure what would be a safe number to keep or look out for while the artist is doing the tattoo on me. Any suggestions? Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.

Permalink Reply by Jesus Ingles on February 18, 2012 at 4:36pm Well, I don't take insulin, just metformin. But I understand what you mean by having my BG relatively flat. Thanks.

As for your initial query, I don't know what to say...I've never paid much attention to the BGs in prep for a tattoo. My most recent finished up last May (I went every other week for 2 months for 3 hours per sitting) and I went from the hours of 11-2 so I didn't have lunch at my normal time, and just shifted things a bit. Never had any issues whatsoever w/BGs before or during...have experienced some light lows after but nothing major.
I may have missed it in earlier posts, but what are you getting??? :)
Permalink Reply by Jesus Ingles on February 18, 2012 at 4:48pm good to know. I'm getting the wolf that is my profile picture. :)
Permalink Reply by acidrock23 on February 18, 2012 at 9:48pm Ooops, sorry I didn't scope out your profile! I would want my BG fairly "low", as opposed to high? I'd go for a walk. One of my martial arts buddies is a professor at the University of Illinois and has done psychology studies showing that exposure to greenspace makes you happier, along with smarter, or at least better able to perform on math tests? If you go for a walk first, it will nudge your BG lower and I think that the fresh air psych benefits would be good, particularly given the "natural" subject of your tattoo?
If you are producing adrenaline, I would think you wouldn't want a snack, as that would jack your BG up?
Permalink Reply by Bec on February 19, 2012 at 6:15am I only say a snack bc after all that adrenaline production (at least for me) can sometimes lead to a low later on...
Be prepared to sweat a lot - that's adrenaline, but if you feel wonky check the BGs ;)
Permalink Reply by Jesus Ingles on February 19, 2012 at 10:20am Cool, thanks guys. I hadn't thought about a walk beforehand, but I think it would help with my BG levels as well as relax me a bit. I will have a snack on hand just in case. And if I start to sweat, I'll know why.
