Love the typestyle!! I've always gotten the tattoo and then told my doctor. I must be lucky mine heal very quickly. He wasn't thrilled about the ankle tats, but didn't say much. My mom passed away with cancer at 51 in '99 and every year since except this past year I've gotten a tat on the anniv. of her passing. Kinda trading one pain for another. Family thinks I'm crazy but it works for me. My last one was the diabetic tat. I will try to post.

I thought about getting it as well (just the word "Diabetic"), but a bit higher up just above the elbow crease. I havent gotten around to it yet. I think its a great idea, exactly for the reasons you mentioned, Amy Lou.

got Diabetic tattooed on my arm (you can see it somewhat in one of my pictures) .. people either think it's the dumbest thing they have ever seen (the people that generally don't understand how serious this disease is) or they love it and think it's an awesome idea. Everytime I have been admitted to the hospital for DKA every single nurse always tells me how good of an idea it was to get that. I have it tattooed on my right forearm so if I'm passed out someone will see it.
