Hi Markeezy & Piscesyin.

Thank You! For your info and advice. The redness has almost gone away and now I am using Aveeno facecream and a Fragrance-Free Rexall Extra Dry skin lotion during the day. Sometimes put a bit of Bio-Oil at if it looks to dry. It is looking much better too. It is still tender in one spot..I hope this goes away soon. Thanks again.

I used to own a tattoo shop and although we also used to sell several version of tattoo balm, my personal favorite is the Dr. Bronner's Balm: Dr. Bronner's Organic Balm In the shop, we sold mostly H2Ocean products: H2Ocean Tattoo AfterCare  They make some great products and used to have a foam or mousse that was kind of nice.  In a pinch, good old A&D and the lotions Markeeezy mentioned.  Just remember, no dyes/perfumes/junk to prevent infection and color leaching.  :)

Carly -

I can't speak to your specific situation as I'm not an expert, but I've got a full sleeve and all I've ever done as far as healing is kept it nice and clean with a mild soap, and applied the most chemical free lotion I can find when it gets noticeably dry and/or "peely". I use Lubriderm Extra Sensitive, which is dye- and fragrance-free, as well as containing no other chemical additives.

I'm not sure why your tattoo would still be warm that long after getting it - all of my tattoos have been done after being diagnosed, and I've never experienced anything quite like that. However, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Email your artist to see if he has any advice or thoughts about it, and if say another week goes by and it's still a problem, I'd go to a doctor. Potential infection is nothing to take lightly.

That being said, I suggest a very mild lotion like the one I mentioned, and nothing else. I'm a big fan of doing as little as possible when healing a tattoo aside from keeping it clean, and it's worked very well for me.

This is not my first tattoo or anything but since the last one was so many moons before being D.I think I am being a bit paranoid. It is a large starts on the foot up to under the knee. I have a fairly solid/shaded black part which is still very warm.(It's 10 days old) Here's my question can I use Dermal Therapy Extra Strength Body Lotion on it? Or just use Aveeno? I ran out of A & D Ointment. I do not live near the artist and he will be returning in a few months. Help ! I have been cleaning it and wearing shorts when I am home. I have started to hold cold pop cans on it to help with the heat.
