TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

I went to my endo today and he suggested that I may be developing Type 3 diabetes. He described it as a Type 1 diabetic that slowly becomes a Type 2 diabetic also. He didn't go into any detail about it today, he said we had more important things to do today. Does anyone know more about this? I had never heard of it before and it has me a little (or a lot) concerned. I would appreciate any insight you might have. Thanks.

It is Type 1 with symptoms of Type 2 like Insulin resistance. Several years ago my Dr said I had some of the symptoms of Type 2 but when I asked exactly what that meant she didn't really say. The only thing she did say was that I was insulin resistance, which make it hard to adjust insulin. Sometimes it seems like the insulin works just fine and then other times it seems like I haven't even given any insulin. My insulin doses are higher, too. If you find out any other info about Type 3 please let me know.

Gosh, I agree with Sarah - I would schedule another appointment with the doctor and make sure that they have enough time to sit down with you and explain exactly what they meant. I can't imagine what would be "more important" than explaining what he's diagnosing you with. Good luck to you!

Well, first of all, he didn't diagnose me with it. Also, it was the first time I have visited him. I am trying to find a new endo. He was great. He was more concerned with getting my basals and stuff set where they should be because my last endo was whacko!!! I am not pregnant, although I do have a 5 month old. I do have another appointment on the 22nd of Dec. so I will be sure to ask more questions about it then. I think he ordered some tests from my blood work that will tell us more. I just wondered if anyone had any insight because like Sarah said there are a lot of "different" things on the net that are misleading or differ in too many ways for all of them to be correct. It is very confusing. I'll let you all know what he says as soon as I find out more. Thanks.

Oh yeah, I am slightly overweight, but nothing that should cause problems.
