Hi Kurt; welcome to the club. Just curious, I see you are not on insulin?
Comment by Kurt on December 1, 2012 at 5:29am Hello, see you all Lada!
Hey LADAs, it's LADA Awareness Week (October 15-22). How is everyone doing, and are you doing anything to shine the light on LADA/adult-onset Type 1 diabetes?
Good, just wanted to make sure you weren't taking 16 units of Novolog at bedtime!
Awesome, Justin!
Hey Justin: Congrats on the good work! I'm assuming that's a typo and you mean 16 units of Lantus at bedtime, not 16 units of Novolog at bedtime?
Comment by David (dns) on July 31, 2012 at 2:18pm Justin, way to go! Keep up the good work.
Hi,
I have some good news I wanted to share. I was diagnosed LADA just over a year ago (June 2011). I started with A1C of 9.7 and mg/dL over 300. Since then I have been able to maintain A1C's in the 5's and I have been around 5.6 for over six months.
I started out with Metformin but switched to Lantus (Jan)and now Novolog since April. I am taking 16 units of Novolog once a day at bedtime.
I guess I am just happy that everything is stable, I am on a medication that works with no side effects and my numbers are stable.
I might also add that my weight has been very stable for over a year now and my cholesterol is down to 85 with the help of Lipitor.
Life is good for now
Justin
Comment by sheltiefan on July 31, 2012 at 8:09am Anna, I was thinking about your comments on fatty foods yesterday...I'm sure you know that fat slows down the digestion rate. When I would eat higher fat foods like pizza, my short acting Novolog would finish its effectiveness before the food was finished digesting. I would get normal readings 2 hrs. post eating then spike 3-4 hrs. after. Through much experimenting, I found that if I dose at the end of a meal when eating pizza, and actually dosing 10 min. after eating Mexican food, I don't have that problem at all and my numbers stay in lower range and can even go hypo so I test frequently after those kind of meals. Just wanted to pass that along to you and others if it helps.
