I take 160 units a day, I still have bg levels in the 200's in the morning can't get them down. I here so many wonderful stories about how Lantus is so great, but it is not working for me no matter how much I take.

I take 9 units of Lantus and I'm a type 1. If the day is ok I have my blood sugar at 8O in the morning, and I use Apidra at meals. Lantus works well with me. My shot of Lantus is at 7 in the morning. 160 units! Do you tell your endo about?
I actually got up to 180 units a day. My Dr. finally took me off and put me on Levemir. But now I have to adjust to that as well. My Dr. also told me the Lantus was most likely causing my weight gain too. Thanks for your help.
Well I finally am off Lantus. So long, good ridence. I take Levemir and novolog R now. I am still having troubles with my bs but I have to adjust the dose. My Dr. said Lantus and Lyrica are 2 meds that does make you gain. And I sure don't need to do that.
Hi Cathy: :)

That's tough when a Person can't keep their numbers in the good range all or most of the time. Sometimes the Insulin stops working. You sound like you're Insulin Resistant.

I take 12 units soon after I awaken and 12 units normally 12 hours later. I do wish some People wouldn't paint everyone with the same brush. I've been on Insulin for 47+ years and on Lantus for about 2 1/2 years. I've never gained an ounce from Insulin. And I know others who haven't gained from it either. So you can tell your Dr. for me and the others that he is full of it(in nicer words, of course). I did gain weight from eating too much and the wrong foods on occasion when I fell off the wagon, when I quit smoking and when I had Hypothyroidism, I gained weight also. No much though. Lantus works Well for me. I hope that the Levemir works for you more effectively. Good Luck. :)
Hello every body,
i'm type1,i take 35 units of Lantus at 9 p.m.
i take 6 units of Novorapid on the brackfast, lunch and dinner.
Lantus realy works well with me.

i'm thinking about the Pump==>all the people told me it's good.
its have been only weeks but lantus
"and any other type of insulin"makese me hypo
i take 20 units
it really shocked !!!!!!!! 160!!!oh my!i nearly stopped insulin when my endo decided 40!is your endo
ok with that?and more importantly! you?

I feel as though it makes me gain weight.
I just started on the Lantus to see any noticeable results.
I take 58 units at 8:00pm. It works fine for me. I also use Novorapid at meals and dose it according to my carb count for each meal.

What are you taking at mealtime to deal with the carbs you eat?
I am still in the tweaking process. Are you happy with Novorapid? Meanwhile, I will check out info on Novarapid. Thanks
I take 90 units in the morning and sometimes my BG is still high in the morning, so my doctor raised my oral diabetic med too 80mg twice a day and now my A1C come down to 7.5 from 9.1 i am so happy
Lantus didn't seem to work for me while I was on Januvia/Metformin.
My doc switched me to mealtime plus sliding scale Humolog and Metformin along with the Lantus. I have great control now.
