I use both in my regimine as well as amaryl and metformin... I mostly do pretty well unless I guess wrong about the carbs in a particular meal...

Definitely try splitting the dose.

@ Chaplain - Your blood sugar is higher in the morning because the previous day's shot of Lantus is wearing off as the morning progresses. For some people, Lantus does not last a full 24 hours. You might have better numbers if you split your dose in two, and had one shot at 10:30 am and one at 10:30 pm. Also, you probably need a slightly higher dose than you're taking now. You should discuss these options with your doctor of course.

I found that I did better with a split dose.

Julia; I'm just on Lantus. I inject 25 units at 10:30 pm, and that is supposed to carry me through the day. But I'm also on two different pills during the day. My biggest problem is I'm usually higher in the morning before breakfast (in the 130's) than I am before dinner (supper?). I spiked about 230 one morning, though, and panicked! Called the ER, and they just said, watch it. I like the SoloStar, though. It's so easy to use! And, I'm only 67, so it doesn't confuse me as much. lol

Hi all.. new to this group and site...

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I go to a clinic (no insurance) and my only option is lantus and humalog. Im not doing great and I know I can do better on a different regiment but this is what is keeping me alive, I suppose.

Stuff it! No I'm just kidding(: I really dont know why. I take Humalog and Humalin in the morning before school, so I dont have to inject at school. Then I take Humalog right before dinner to cover that. Then before bed I take some Lantus and eat a snack. So, maybe that will explain it a little. My doc just put me on three insulins, I guess just because she can(; How many insulins are you on, Chaplain ET?

I use Levemir and Humalog. I take an enormous amount of both and still can't control my spikes. I take 100 units of Levemir daily and I take from 30-50 units of Humalog before meals and still have large spikes at 2 hours after meals. My Dr. (general practice) seems to think that its time to switch to another long acting insulin (instead of Levemir), he told me what it was but I forgot (starts with a G). I have only been injecting since January, and all I know is I do fine at controlling my blood sugar until I have to eat, then it all goes to hell-in-a-handbasket. It just seems like my problem is my lack of response to the Humalog. I am un-employed right now and I get my Humalog free from my Dr. so I am kind of at a blessed in that regard. I had some good advise from veterans of the diabetic life that warned me about being my own physician so I guess I'll have to be patient.

Julia; how come you're using THREE types of Insulin? If I'm being too bold, just tell me to stuff it!

I use Lantus, Humalog, andd Humalin. Hate Humalin, but the others are awesome!

I take Humalog before dinner, and after dinner I got really low, like in the 40s. I know it doesn't sound horribly bad, but I didn't even feel it.
