I was taking Metformin 800 mg three times a day. I started taking 1000mg twice a day after I had a stroke last month. The only problem I ever had with it was an unsettlerd stomach for about a week when I first started taking it.

Geeze...I'm slow finding and joining groups of interest to me, such as this one, in this community. I started taking Metformin 500mg 2x day to lower my fasting bs, and I'm currently on Metformin 1000mg 2x day with no problems and usually lower fasting bs. I'm pleased with the way Metformin suppresses my appetite between meals and I'm slowly loosing weight as a result of the Metformin plus increased exercise.

I've just started taking 1000mg/once a day (one month ago). Doc moved the time from the morning to after dinner. It's helped in bringing my fasting numbers down.

I also take 1000mg 2 x day. I started this in June 2009. It really upsets my stomach but I take it faithfully every day. I don't know anything about dawn phenomenon. What is it?

I take 1000mg 2x/day-- Question: Does the time the second dose is taken affect your fasting numbers the next morning? I have been told holding off until 9 or 10 at night may reduce dawn phenomenon in the morning. Your experiences?? Thanks. J

I've been on Metformin since Mar 4/09.... started on 2/1000g twice daily....First day it knocked the heck out of my stomach. Went to Ian Blumer, M.D, F.R. C. P diabetic specialist Website....he suggests you start 1 week 1/2 morn/ 1/2 night...2nd week 1 morn/1/2 night etc until you're up to 2 morn/2 night. That made a big difference. Felt much better. It's take my test down slightly but not sure it's enough. Any idea how long it takes to get it under control? My A1C when dr. put me on them was 8mmol//L think that's 144 us

Hi, I started on Metformin, and had a bad reaction to it, got real lethargic, slept for 16 hours and when I was awake my stomach was so upset I wished I was sleeping. I had no appetite at all. Anyone else have this experience? My doctor took me off and for now I am in the wait and see mode. I have never been on meds for diabeties before it has always been diet controled. My a1c has been about 6.9.

well I lost 8 pounds and my blood pressure is now normal (with meds) and my fasting blood glucose went down from 122 to 112. I decided I will try the Metformin so I started sunday. How does it help with weight loss?
I haven't been doing so well on food lately, got complacent so I have to get back on track. what I did was great but then I stopped and cheat too much. carol
