Permalink Reply by David on November 23, 2012 at 9:55pm I'd wish you good luck but you won't need it. The pump is such a great way to go! I started on mine about 13 years ago after watching Nicole Johnson win the 1999 Miss America pageant and talking about life with the pump. I could never imagine going back to daily injections. Just work it out with an open mind and learn about proper basal rates. If you haven't read the book Pumping Insulin I highly recommend it. Medtronic included it with my last pump. And ask lots of questions here and wherever you can speak to a 'pumper'.
Cheers!

Permalink Reply by Bron on November 24, 2012 at 5:19am Welcome to PumpWorld - once you get used to it, you will love it! When I went on mine 8 years ago, the learning curve was a bit steep, but going into the 2nd week of use suddenly the fogs cleared and it all made sense. I was considerably less tech-savvy at that point, though, and that makes a difference. Once I realized it was just a tiny computer I was able to find my way around the menus with ease. And you'll really like the improvement in stabilizing your sugars. Have fun!
Permalink Reply by MegaMinxX on November 24, 2012 at 6:42pm Good luck with your training and pump start up.
Did they discuss with you about starting on saline first, or using insulin ? Many have started with saline and liked the chance to operate the pump and get used to the routine, but still doing insulin by injection for the first days or week. In my case, I talked my trainer into skipping the saline, and going direct to insulin.
Since I believe you have CGMS, you may be comfortable starting with insulin, especially if you've had time to play with the pump settings and features. But some trainers insist on saline first.
Also be sure to ask the trainer about the different types of infusion sets, and hopefully get samples of each. You can see videos of them on the MM website, but each person needs to find out what works best for them. If trainer does not provide, you can call MM support and request them.
