Are there any benefits to uploading BOTH my pump AND my UltraLink meter to Carelink? What does your doc prefer?

Hi,
I wear a Paradign 523 and when I upload to Carelink, I see the option to upload my meter as well. I learned I have to buy a cable for that. I don't have a problem with buying a $30 cable IF there's any benefit to including both histories into the software. I love the gadgetry of it, but is there a benefit? If you do both, are the reports combined or separate?
Also, I'm going to a new doc this week and wonder if she will upload the meter or the pump. Which is best? And in case she doesn't upload for some reason, what hard copy reports should I bring?
Thanks from 6 mo pumper. I'm still asking many questions!

Mine both upload automatically because my meter talks to my pump. If your pump talks to your meter, just upload it all from the pump. I just upload the data into Carelink. My doc has access to my account and was really happy to click around in it during my last visit.

These, I think, are questions your doctor should answer. There is a way for him/her to get access to your account directly. You might have to give up the login and password but I'm not 100% sure on that. I just know that's what I did when I was in my endo's office the last time I was there.

I do the same thing that Regina does, as my Meter is the One Touch Ultra Link
that talks to my Pump 723 Revel
My care givers have been given my login and password to access my reports

anytime they want

Regina and Gary,
Perfect, thanks! I forgot that my trainer accesses my Carelink account directly. My new doc could cut to the chase and do that too. I'll suggest it.
Many Thanks for the enlightenment

I'm a little more private. I just print out the data and give it to them. Just my preference. They always do an A1C when I get there anyway.

if your meter is linked with your pump, there is no benefit to uploading the meter as well. all the data is saved in the pump. if you are uploading the pump all the meter data is already there so there is no reason to buy the cable and upload both. even when i went to my endo, i always printed my reports just in case, especially my sensor reports and made sure they reviewed them also. the new MD may not have carelink so they may uplaod only the meter so i would bring your carelink reports just in case. if they dont upload pumps ask why! uploading the meter only shows BGs not how you are using your pump, boluses, basal rates, carb ratios, correction ratios etc.... they have to upload your pump. hope this helps.

Thanks Gator, it does help.

I think your question is already answered.
The pump stores 3 months data from your BG meter in the long term memory of the pump, so you will not have to upload it seperately.

Uploading both the pump data and meter data adds significant information to CareLink for both you and your medical team.

BTW, if your meter is a LifeScan OneTouch (a OneTouch UltraLink came with my Paradigm Revel 723), OneTouch will send the cable free. Call OneTouch Customer Service on their toll free number, give them your meter serial number, and mention the free cable cable offer. They will send one free of charge with the disc for the cable driver.

Regards, and hope this helpful,
John (T1 41 years, Pumper 10 months)

Hi John~
That is excellent information. I will call OneTouch today and see if I can get a free cable. It seems like it should be free, considering that Carelink is supposed to be a big feature of the whole Paradigm pump system of management.
Thanks, Cindy (T1 19 years, Pumper 6 mos)
