I have a question for everyone. Do any of you know of any ways to get assistance with getting pump supplies. My (new) boss has the minimed and due to her pre-existing condition, our insurance will not pay for any of her scripts relating to diabetes and she can't afford to pay full price for her supplies. If any of you have any ideas or avenues that I can tell her to explore, I would be grateful. Thanks.

Diabetic supplies not covered ! I HATE This !
I am looking to find health insurance for a friend who is also diabetic. I wanted to get an estimate of how much his diabetic supplies would be with the basic health insurance, including test strips, insulin, and needles. I found that Supplemental insurance including Basic Health Insurance do not cover these common diabetic supplies, so these were not much help.

I found my answers in articles at National Diabetes InformationClearinghouse (NDIC)resources. I found that the cost of a High Risk Health Insurance Plan was his best choice.

Drug companies that sell insulin or diabetes medications usually have patient assistance programs. Such programs are available only through a physician. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and its member companies sponsor an interactive website with information about drug assistance programs at www.PPARx.org

Good Luck - hope you can find the needed resources.

This might be a tad late, but has your boss contacted Medtronic's financial assistance? http://www.medtronicdiabetes.com/support/ordering/billing

Medtronic has a phone number (1.800.646.4633 and select option 4.) that customers can call and apparently will be assisted by someone that can tell them if they qualify for some sort of financial assistance.

I haven't used it myself, but I should as I'm really struggling to pay off my pump and Medtronic is VERY persistent in calling customers to get their money. I pay on time each month yet get calls several times a month from Medtronic telling me that I need to pay in full.

I figure it's worth a try at least.
