So last night I was going out for Halloween and I checked my BG maybe 30 mins before I left the house. Then I got on the subway to meet my friend. As I was getting off, I noticed that the time in teh station seemed off, so I went to use my pump to check the time, which I never do but I wasn't wearing a watch, being in costume and all. When I went to look at the time, the screen was completely blank. Nothing. So panic. I don't have anything other than my meter with me, so I can't even McGyver w/ a syringe if need be. I decided to take out and re put in the battery. I do that and maybe 30 long seconds later, the screen comes back with BAT OUT LIMIT. I called Medtronic and they said that I must have hit it and it shouldn't happen again. I'm really unsure of when I could have hit it. It was working when I checked my BG like 45 mins earlier. Then, I walked to the bus, transferred to the subway, where I sat for a few minutes. There aren't even turnstiles on the subway entrance, but sliding doors, so I couldn't have hit it on those. I really don't know what happened but the guy at Medtronic seemed unconcerned. I haven't noticed any issues, but I'm afraid that the same thing will happen in my sleep and I'll wake up at 300 or something. I"ve had the pump for 15 months or so now so its not old. Any one have this happen? Should I be concerned?

Did they do any troubleshooting with you?? If not I would definitly call back and maybe you will have better luck with another person, you need to feel comfortable and they need to understand that. I would keep calling until I felt mine was working ok. Hope you had a Happy Halloween ;)

It sounds like your battery died... I had this happen last weekend at my 20 year HS reunion.. I looked at my pump and noticed that I must have missed the beep..sometimes that happens!!...I have mine set for a quick beep. Are you using Energizer batteries.. cause if you don't use what they recommend, the other batteries don't stay alive very long..I was ok for the couple of hours I was out at the picnic and I was not running to a store (out of the way) to change the battery. When I got home I really focused on taking my BG and bolused..I can be ok on a high... but not a low.. i was just a lil high, so I was ok..hope this helps..

I had got the low battery alarm the day before so I changed it, about 24 hours earlier. I use Duracell Power Pix, the electronics/ low weight one. They last for months usually. I am curious if it is just a coincidence that I changed the battery Friday.

It is not recommended to use anything but Energizer and they are not kidding when they say to only use that brand.. I had bad experiences with other batteries.. and perhaps your battery was not good..You should call Medtronics and see if they can exchange your pump.. I did that when I had screen probs...they switched with no prob.. I had my new pump within a day..and I mailed back the old one. nice and easy. You have to be comfortable with what your equipment is doing. Good luck!!!

The Duracell are slightly shorter, apparently, which could explain the contact issue with the battery.

That's not a low battery warning - but it does mean that pump was not receiving battery power. If I remember correctly, the two times I had this happen with my Paradigm (which I wore from 2004-2008), the customer support people told me that it was a circuitry short of some kind - that it's possible the battery was loose or disconnected or bad. They had me remove the battery for 10-15 minutes, I think, and then put a fresh battery in. Or at least that's what I remember.

The troubleshooting he had me told me that I would have done was take out the battery, let it rest for 10 mins or so and then put it back in. Since I had already taken it out and put it back in, he said that that was fine. I think I'll stop and pick up some Energizers on my way home.
