I think it was announced/released around Sept/Oct 2012, and started shipping out with new purchases. They also sent free meters out to existing users, to replace One touch link, since Dec/Jan.

I contacted MM when I had not been notified, and they promptly sent me one. I think others received emails, or just received it automatically, particularly if they were getting their regular supplies directly from MM.

I wasn't specifically meaning the Bayer meters but ANY that 'linked' with the pumps and transmitted the BSL results. I have a feeling that that sort of thing has been available in the US for use with the Medtronic pumps for a few years with various brands / models of meters. I was wondering when the first ones became available.

I'm on my 4th MM pump, which I got last year with the One Touch link meter, and last month got the Bayer Next. I'm pretty sure my first MM pump in 1997 did not have one.

I think the first time I got a link meter was at least 10 years ago, called the BD link meter. Mostly I remember I used it to download the pump data, using a funky cable. Then I probably got the first One Touch at least 7-8 years ago with the MM 508 or 522.

Thanks for that, I thought they had been around for quite a while.

Last September Medtronic here in Australia sent out a Contour Link meter to the pumpers here in Aus. I initially thought and correctly that it was great a free meter that transmits BSLs to the pump but the thing that REALLY IRRITATED me we have never had the linked meters of any sort here previously and we ONLY see one now that you in the US are supplied with the new USB version. Coincidence....I think not!

I may seem ungrateful and NOTHING against Americans getting the new and latest meters, it is great but my AUD$10,000+ (cost of pump plus consumables over 4 years) is worth just a s much as $US. I/we don't deserve to get the 'old' meters because Medtronic now have a warehouse full of them that they can't get rid of in the US because who in the US will want one when they can have the USB version, we DO NOT deserve the 'cast offs'!

Medtronic (IF you are listening) you 'dropped the ball' with this decision(and one or two other things) and I clearly see now that diabetes is purely and simply a business to you but you NEED to remember it is not just a business to us. That being said, this customer has taken his $10,000 elsewhere and gone with Animas this time around, I am sure they will appreciate it better.

First and foremost I will always do what is best for me and treating my diabetes so if Medtronic lift their act/come out with some wonderful advances in pumps I may be enticed back to them but for now you have lost out.

I am sorry you are disappointed in medtronics.. Did you happen to think that since your pump is different from our pump that the Bayer contour USB meter is not compatible with your meter? They are a company making decision based on issues that you might not know.

Good luck with animas pumps, I just don't like to carry around two devices with me. the pump and controller. and if you have the DEXOM cgm than thats another device.

If the pumps were different in some way then that is when they use the different names/model numbers (ie your Revel as opposed to our Veo) but I believe my Paradigm 722 is the same as your Paradigm 722....I may be wrong and am sure Medtronic have their story/reason, their 'spin doctors' can make any decision sound right.

As for the not wearing two devices, Medtronic is NOT the only one in that game anymore, I have an Animas Vibe so if I do decide to start using CGMS there is no need for another device.
