Hi, I am a Type I also , and have been using Apidra for about 6 mounths. Novalog was hard to regulate with my eating habbits... ( LOVE IT )....My Endo sujested I try it . I have fewer Highs unless I get carried away on snacks while watching a show or something. I am on a Pump which i would not take anything for. With the Apidra I don't have the leg cramps ,that would have me up walking the floors. and I have also added a few pounds too which I really need to do. My insurance pays for all the Apidra I need every 3 months. just wish they paid more on my supplies for the pump. I really think you and your son will be happy with it, but everyone reacts different to insulin, you will have to wait and see how things go.

i myself am using apidra on the minimed and it works great. I only use 16-20 units daily (bolus and basal) and rarely have lows.

Apidra is temperature sensitive. If it gets hot, it will not work any more. On the third day using it, take off the pump and do a Cannula fill to flush out the tubing. I do 8 units. This helps the set up last the third day. (My tubing gets hot when I go to the gym.)

I used to use Novolog but it had a long "tail" for me. Switched over to Apidra (which is free until the end of the year, btw, so maybe see if your doc can write you an RX for 3x what he needs so you can stock up... that's what I did). Since being on Apidra, My spikes are much better, and it takes care of my meal boluses quite accurately as far as timing goes.
