I have a 6 month old 554 that I think might not be working properly. I have been using Medtronic pumps for 13 yrs. and have never had to call with any problems or questions. What can I expect if I call? Is there a test they can check over the phone, a list of questions to determine if there is a problem etc. I am to the point I am taking 10 extra units of insulin for the past 2 days. Injecting by syringe seems to work fine, so not the insulin. I have been through normal check list, now starting to show some keytones so drinking a lot of water. I changed the site again 4 hrs. ago. So that's where I'm at. If I call in the morning what can I expect?

I have always had nice, helpful people help me over the phone..And yes there are some tests they can have you run over the phone; they are there to answer questions 24/7, so no need to wait until morning just call the 800 number on the back of your pump.
Permalink Reply by mary on January 1, 2013 at 2:20pm Check for bubbles forming in the reservoir. Does the chamber smell of insulin? Remove reservoir, rewind, tap, unscrew and replace cap, use plunger to push insulin into tubing. Do you see any bubbles?

The rep was really helpful and diagnosed that my pump was not working properly. I received a replacement pump within two days. It came with a pre-paid return UPS envelope for my malfunctioning pump. I thought the process was rather smooth. I hope you will have a similar experience should your pump need replacement if you haven't already called. All the best!
