I received my pump for Christmas. I am scheduled for my pump training on the 25th. My educator said they typically like you to get started on the pump and then a month later do the cgm training. She did say it was up to me if I wanted to try to start both at the same time.

Does anyone have any experience starting both at the same time? Looking back, would you do both at the same time again?

Thanks

I started them at the same time. CGMS and pumping. The insertion for the CGMS was the biggest obstacle - we bent the first insertion needle and had to force the second in by hand! The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to make sure that you can carb count! I went through the carb counting 3 times with my dietician before starting pumping. In the 2nd and 3rd weeks of using the pump(1st week was getting my Basal right) I only went out of the 4 - 8 range twice!
The cool thing with CGMS is that you can spot the trends and make adjustments accordingly. Disadvantage: It is damn expensive and the insertion is daunting:)
Good luck and you can do it!
Thanks, I think I can carb count pretty good, but I guess I'll find out.
Pumping and CGM at the same time is a good thing. I got my pump in 2007 around Xmas. I love it. One thing to note, if the button ever gets stuck call Medtronic and they will send you one the next day. CGM can last up to 6 days. Medtronic advises changing every 3 days. When you get done with your last box of supplies call medtronic to get more.
Thanks, I've been playing with the pump until my training. Do you use the Carelink?
