Comment by Elizabeth on June 6, 2012 at 11:08am I've switched Eric to the Mio too. He can only have sites in his bum because everywhere else he has very little body fat, and 3 years of Silhouettes left a lot of scar tissue. They seem to be working, it just took me a bit to figure out that insertion works best if you put down an IV hand strip (with a hole cut in it) so the glue on the Mio site has something to grab hold of. For some reason it doesn't want to hang onto his skin even when I use an IV prep wipe.
Comment by Joan on June 6, 2012 at 8:53am I have switched to the MIO an find that although I have had a few problems with the insertion, it leaves less of a scar than the silhouette and it is less painful.
Comment by Scott E on June 6, 2012 at 8:45am I just switched to Sure-T and have been using my lower back. Not sure how long it will last, but it should give my abdomen some time to heal from all the Silhouettes that have invaded it over the years.
Suggestions for scar tissue....try upper thigh, try some self massage to break up scar tissue or a Myo fascial release person. I have T1 42 years and same issues. Have you tried the mio ?
Comment by MamaJaguar on June 4, 2012 at 12:56am So I am havin trouble lately hittin the 'brick wall' of torso scar tissue after 23 years of this--everything inserts fine, but only a day into a site, i'm getting poor insulin absorption--not getting any "NO DELIVERY' alarms, but when I pull out my canula, it just drips with backed up insulin. Anyone got any advice on fresh sites to try? I've done the armpit puff, but that has just caused me some cystic infections. Done my bottom, but I always accidentally yank it out on trips to the potty--hahha. Movin' on to my upper thigh... hope it works. Maybe I'm not using the best type of infusion set for me???
Comment by Sharon on May 5, 2012 at 6:28pm I've been using the CGM for almost 2 years but lately have had a lot of the sites get infected. I clean and use alcohol but the taped area and the insertion site itself get irritated and twice I've gotten cellulitus. I teach fitness classes and am training for a marathon - so lots of sweat. Medtronics help line rep thinks i might be allergic to something in the sensor. any ideas????
Comment by Erika on May 2, 2012 at 5:49am @Kate's Mom and Samantha, I have tried about a half a dozen kinds of tapes, and like Tegaderm the best. Love it. Agree that it's better than IV3000.
Comment by Kate's Mom on May 2, 2012 at 5:45am Samantha, our insurance doesn't cover IV 3000 or any transparent film. I found Tegaderm transparent film in the right size to cover the cgm on Amazon. We like the Tegaderm better...IV3000 left a residue on the cgm. My daughter swims in her cgm all the time and have no trouble with adhesion. Good luck!
Comment by Kate's Mom on May 2, 2012 at 5:42am Todd, we've been using the cgm for almost a year with my daughter and I can't imagine life without it. I'd give up the pump before I'd give up the cgm. Keep in mind, it isn't perfect...it is a piece of the diabetes management puzzle. And don't give up after a week! If my 12 year old can do it, so can you!
