Hello BSC and Knightshade:

I, too, continue to build my knowledge base about MODY diabetes.

It is my privilege to have had the privilege to have spoken personally with Dr. Stefan Fajans, whose research summaries have been uploaded here by several of us. He is a brilliant man - without whom we would not have the basic understanding of our disease.

He just celebrated his 94 birthday and he is still sharp as a tack - we should all be so lucky!!!

If you would like to wish him a Happy Birthday or thank him for his scientific contributions over the past 50 years, you may send him an in care of his assistant, Sheri Amici, at University of Michigan Medical School: samici@med.umich.edu (he is, of course, "emeritus" or retired from his position as head of the endocrinology department at the medical school there. . . but Sheri still acts as a part-time assistant and can forward email to Dr. Fajans).

Please understand that Dr. Fajans no longer practices medicine - so writing to Ms. Amici can't help obtain testing or a diagnosis -- Kovler is the best bet for that. But he was the pioneer in the MODY area of diabetes and is revered by all who continue to research the genes that cause MODY. Happy Birthday, Dr. Fajans and Kudos!

In the meantime, I am uploading several more files for the MODY reference library.

There was a good overview article in the British Medical Journal in October:

I use this one to point doctors at when I meet one that hasn't heard of MODY (which happens quite a lot!).
