Mine has been "mild" - but most of my family has been diagnosed as Type 1 during their teenage years.
I think the biggest thing with MODY is the inheritance factor.
It runs very strongly in families (being autosomal dominant).
Do either you or your husband have diabetes?

Permalink Reply by Knightshade on February 11, 2013 at 12:13pm Sounds like there is a strong family trait there.
Probably not a bad idea to get confirmation of MODY if your able to,
but keep in mind that knowing the form of diabetes might not alter treatment.
(I know that I wanted confirmation either way - and was lucky enough to get it.)
Any idea what the age of onset was for the extended family?
How are they controlling their diabetes?
There are different forms of MODY - and symptoms differ somewhat between them.
Speaking for myself - I've been able to control things by diet, keeping meals below 25g of carbs. That typically leaves me between 70-105 mg/dl at all times (normally mid 80's).
Eating a "Standard American Diet" - my 2 hour post prandial numbers would hover near the ~180 mg/dl range.

Permalink Reply by Knightshade on February 14, 2013 at 7:42am Out of curiosity, have you ever checked your own blood sugar level 1-2 hours after a carb loaded meal (pasta, etc.)?
Permalink Reply by Brian (bsc) on February 23, 2013 at 5:36am The thing about MODY is that it is autosomal dominant, which means that if you son has MODY, either you or the birth father must have MODY. The two main expressions of MODY are that you have a chronic mildly elevated fasting blood sugar (MODY-2) or that your respond poorly to meals, going way high (all the other forms of MODY).
