I guess I'm still a biker. I just can't ride anymore. Not b/c of the D, never had a problem while riding. Check your BG, ride,Check your BG, ride, Check your BG. I had a bad accident last year and am just now able to walk. But is in my soul to ride ...maybe one day I'll ride again.

I have found that on long trips that if you inform gas station people that you need ice for keeping insulin cool they will give it to you free. My husband and I took a trip from Minnesota to Texas and had no problem getting ice from gas stations for the purpose of keeping insulin cool for free. I kept my insuling in a plastic bottle also to keep the vials out of water. my bottle is for shampoo in a travel kit and the vials fit nicely.
I have an insulin pump and tested when we stopped for gas. the big thing is to stay hydrated by drinking water or sports drinks.

Hopes this helps fellow bikers.

Hi all! I'm glad to have found you guys! I'm T1 (22yrs), and just started riding about a year and a half ago. I ride an '05 Suzuki Boulevard C50, and she's the best thing on 2 wheels! I guess it freaks alot of people out that I ride with DM, but I've learned the hard way about packing lots of frozen water, a small cooler with my "poker" in the outside pocket of said cooler, and recently going off my pump on summer rides and using Lantus. I hook up for boluses at food stops, and check my number at every gas stop/pit stop. I ran into problems with my insulin in the pump losing effectiveness due to the heat here in FL, hence the Lantus pen. That has worked wonders for me! I also throw a small Rubbermaid container with Skittles in the saddle bag, and keep a couple of packages of crackers inside as well.

Hope to meet y'all someday....Let's go for a ride!

Hi Sheila and hubby, greetings from downunder. Scotland brings back some fond memories during a holiday some years ago.
Sounds like a great occassion enjoyed by many, for a great cause.
Have had a few confrontations with kangaroos fortunately have not yet caused the demise of any being aware of their feeding grounds I am very cautious when in those areas.
Splattered roos are quite a common sight in some locations as with foxes and the occassional slow moving wombat . All skirmishes have been in cars, worst has been a silly Roo that stopped on the white line (maybe he wasn't all that silly !) as I was going past at around 30mph on a winding country road. The rear visor side mirror just clipped his ear and stunned him for a few seconds, he just gave me a dirty look and hopped off non the worse except for maybe an earache !
Early morning/sunrise , evening/sunset are the times to watch them as they are out having a feed at these times.
Good luck with your worthy causes, it is folks like yourselves who really do a lot to promote goodwill for the bikie community.
Regards
Robert

Love your pictures. Beeing born in Scotland and raised in Kenya and now living in Northern New Jersey, USA I am still looking for Harley riders in my area. I guess Australia is a "little too far"....my husband and I have a Harley and love to ride rather than "bar-hopping" that a lot of people do. This Sunday we are going on a charity ride for a little girl who recently was diagnosed with Type 1. I am hoping we can raise a lot of money to help with her medical expenses. I ride wearing my insulin pump and CGM. If I feel I am going low I check my pump and can see my BG readings without having to do a finger-stick. Its great...I keep some raisins in my pocket and can munch away without having to stop. A couple of weeks ago we went on a ride to raise money for the people's families who died on 9/11. We had a police escort all the way into downtown Manhattan to ground Zero, the closed the upper level of the George Washington Bridge and we "clocked it" at 80 m.p.h. What a thrill....the noise of all the bikes in the Holland Tunnel on the way back was amazing. People were just stopping and staring....there were over 3,000 bikes....it was great!
Have you ever run into any kangaroo...s......that would not be a pretty sight !!

Following about 12 months without a 2 wheeler and a search for a new one , I came across a real gem an Honda VT750C Shadow 2001 model, with just 9000km on the clock. This bike is as new with not a ding, scratch or any visible form of wear, well cared for by an owner who cannot ride now due to a medical condition . Added a pic in my photo section.
