Comment by Florian Menninger Jr on April 17, 2013 at 12:55pm Hi New Englanders,
Its been a while since I've been here nagging you to come to one of our monthly MA Pumpers Support Group meetings. All I can say is you don't know what you are missing. At the April meeting we had Dave Barry the Territory Mgr for Insulet tell us about the new smaller and tubeless OmmiPod insulin pump. A few people in the group have switched over to the Tandem tslim pump. Many are using the new Dexcom G4 Platinum CGM. If you are thinking about a pump or CGM we have people who you might want to talk with.
There are several members of the group who go bike riding on the bike trails around New England. If you would like to join us let me know and I will post the dates and times of the rides here. The first one this year was on the Blackstone River Trail starting in Cumberland RI. They are all easy leisurely rides 20 to 25 miles long. A hybrid cofort bike is the way to go for these rides.
My favorite ride is another one in RI that goes from Barrington to Bristol along the east side of Narragansett Bay. We have lunch at Quito's on the bay in Bristol and then ride back. I hope you will give us a try.
Florian
Comment by Florian Menninger Jr on November 8, 2012 at 4:27am Hello New Englanders,
I hope everyone who belongs to and visits this site is safe and sound after Sandy and now the Nor'easter. The people along the shores in CT, RI, MA, NH, ME got the worst of it with the sea surge and high tides. We were without power for about 48 hours but fortunately we have a generator that runs the essentials. The essentials being the sump pump in the cellar, the well pump, and the fridges. Thank goodness we had no water or wind damage on our property.
If you think you need a break take time on Sat Nov 10 to come to the MA pumpers meeting in Woburn,MA
Here is a message from Deb
Patty Rais-Keeley RD, LDN, CDE our local Dexcom Clinical Account specialist (aka our Dexcom rep) will be at our meeting on Saturday to do a presentation on the Dexcom G4 Platinum glucose sensor.
Please be sure to RSVP for this program so we can arrange seating for enough people, email me at dgm555@verizon.net
I hope to see you there!

As I've said many times before we usually go to lunch after the meeting for an eat, drink, and be merry time.
You don't have to be a pumper or CGM user to attend. Maybe you are just thinking about it. I think someday soon, before we get the cure, everyone will be using a pump and a CGM but it will all be integrated and called an Artificial/Bionic Pancreas. :-)
I will be at the meeting so come and say hello, meet some new people, learn something about new devices, tell us about your experiences managing diabetes and controlling blood sugar, have some fun and a few laughs, join us for lunch, and have a good time for a few hours.
The Friday after Thanksgiving in 1967 was the date I found out I would be using insulin for the rest of my life.
How about you???
Florian
Comment by Florian Menninger Jr on October 19, 2012 at 6:57am Hello,
You missed a good meeting of the MA pumpers last week. Michael Broderick was at the meeting to show and tell the new Abbott Diabetes FreeStyle Insulinx glucose meter. We each got a new meter to try out. It has a touch screen that I like a lot and its easy to use. The one problem that I saw is the inability to set up the meter for pump users.:(
As a heads up, next month the DEXCOM Rep will be at the meeting to show and tell the new DEXCOM glucose sensor that was recently approved by the FDA. The new sensor will be used in a many of the new devices being developed that will combine the Insulin Pump with a Continuous Glucose Monitor.
After the meeting we went to Not Your Avg Joes for lunch, more discussions, stories, and laughs. What a group ! ! !
You should come to one of these meetings sometime.

I believe the Abbott Rep will be at the meeting to tell us about their new products. Come and join a friendly, sociable, fun, intersting, and knowledgable group of Type 1 pumpers who are doing their best to manage their diabetes and control their blood sugars to avoid complications. We share a lot of good ideas and I always learn something that helps me. Like I've said many times I've learned more about pumping insulin from this group at these meetings than anywhere else. I will be at the meeting come and say hello.
Comment by Florian Menninger Jr on July 13, 2012 at 6:28am Hi everyone,
Just a quick reminder to those living in the Boston area and suburbs that the July MA Pumpers meeting will be held tomorrow (Sat 7/14) in Woburn. The directions can be found in my comment below. The meetings start around 9:30 am and last until 11:30 to 12 pm. We usually go out to lunch at a nearby restaurant after the meeting. Come and join us and meet some new friends who are dealing with all the same issues that you are. This will be my first meeting back since I fell and fractured my hip last Jan. I am walking (with a limp) and driving now.
My rehab is going well and I expect to be walking normally and riding my bike by the end of the summer. I'm looking forward to doing the bike rides in the fall with the group that I ride with on the bike trails of MA, CT, and RI.
Come and join us and meet some new T1 friends.
Comment by Florian Menninger Jr on May 11, 2012 at 12:54pm Hello New England Diabetes members. I am still trying to get back on my feet after my Jan accident when I fell on some ice and fractured my hip. I'm walking with a cane but after my physical therapy to build up strength and muscle in the leg I expect to be walking without any assists.
I just wanted to bring to your attention the May meeting of the MA pumpers support group in Woburn. Here is the official announcement.

Comment by Florian Menninger Jr on March 17, 2012 at 10:25am I'm always posting something about meetings. Here is one that's coming up soon that is being held in Newton which is close to a number of people in this group.
Its the JDRF Spring Research Briefing and Reception If anyone in this group is planning to go to the JDRF meeting on Tues April 10 from 6 to 9 pm at the Boston Marriott Newton here is a preview of what you will hear about.
http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/articles/53-diabetes-news/12387-th...
You will meet a lot of people of all different ages with T1. In the past there has been an open beer and wine bar and a diabetic friendly buffet (Dinner by the Bite).
JDRF does an excellent job at presenting this event. It's all FREE. Call K. Taranto at the JDRF office at 781-431-0700 by April 2 to get more information or to pre register.
I'm not sure yet if I will be able to go because I'm still recovering from a fractured hip and my mobility is limited. There will be people there from the MA Pumpers Support Group and the new InsulinDependence Boston Chapter Support Group. If you pre-register JDRF will have a name badge for you.

I got diagnosed on Feb 10th with type 1 and... well, the rest is just like everybody else's case - looking for other people with diabetes for info, support and word of wisdom.
I wish you all a great weekend, guys!
