TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Hi everyone

I'm a type 1 and have gone on an insulin pump in the last six months.

I know not everyone is on a pump, but I’m willing to bet that over the next few years a percentage of you will consider it and take it up.

The thing about pumps is (a) they are bloody expensive to buy ($7k +) and (b) they cost a lot to run (more than $2k a year).

At the moment the NZ government are not putting their hand in their pocket for ANY of this stuff. I’m keen to get a petition going to see if we can change their minds.

If you fancy lending your name to this, please visit my blog here: http://www.beingdiabetic.co.nz/2009/02/28/hello-pharmac-so-long-sou... and drop me a comment… then I’ll be in touch later on when I get to formal petition stage.

Also - for the Aussies in the group - for my petition I'd like to use you as a (good) example... can someone please fill me in on the facts re how much funding you get for (a) pumps and (b) consumables?

Thanks in advance all!
Nic
