I recently helped a friend find a single parents group and she found the British Expat group on her own but it got me thinking ...

Do diabetics in the bay area get together for shared activities and if so what type?
And if not what type of activities might be of interest?

- Picnics?
- Frisbee or miniature golf? bowling ...[list favorite activity]
- dining at a "diabetic" friendly restaurant whatever that may be?
- things that are specifically about being a diabetic or things that are specifically not about being a diabetic?
- kid friend or adult only?

prefer 4x a year or 1x/month or as a theme comes to mind

There are local Bay Area diabetic groups on Meetup.com that are available. I actually used to run one of these types of groups myself until recently when I had to discontinue it due to financial reasons. Anyone can actually start up a group and use the Meetup.com website to advertise it and attract members interested in joining.

I actually think it's a good idea. I'm just hoping to find this type of group closer to my area (Union City/Fremont).
Hey Amber,
I'm starting an adult get together type group with JDRF... we're still in the planning stages. This group will be in the Silicon Valley area but I also know that there's a JDRF adult group that meets at the Bay Area headquarters in San Francisco.

Triabetes will be hosting a run/walk at Crissy Field in San Francisco next Wednesday, April 14. We will meet at the Presidio Sports Basement between 6 and 6:15 and go for a 45- to 60-min run or walk together. Stick around after for a 20% shopping discount at Sports Basement, and the opportunity to meet up with local athletes and visiting super starts Peter Nerothin (founder of insulindependence) and John Moore (2008 captain and current iD leader)! If you can't make it for the run, show up around 7:15 for the party! We will provide some light food + drink.

You can email me at sfrunnergirl@gmail.com if you have any questions. This event is open to anyone. RSVP's are appreciated so we can have enough food.

Hey! Saw your post and wanted to share some info about a new group in town! Whether you were diagnosed back in the day when it was "Juvenile Diabetes;" you are a newly diagnosed college freshman; or you were diagnosed well into your second career, the reality is that 85% of those living with type 1 diabetes are over 18!

Without diabetes camps, it's hard to meet other adults living with T1D with whom you can share information, ask questions, and get support.

That's why Beer & Basals is for You!

Beer & Basals is a casual gathering for adults with T1D who want to get to know others living with T1D and expand their circle of support. Beer & Basals will be hosted by Carb DM volunteers Breanne Harris and Katie Craft.

Our first meeting is coming up on Monday, February 27, 7 - 9 pm. Join us at Crepevine in Palo Alto (367 University Ave)! Hope to see you there!
